How many left of your car?

Mikey / Chad: The site shows the numbers of each car that are taxed in a given year. The year of vehicle manufacture is irrelevant.
So the 2010 figure for a 635csi shows all the 635csis that were taxed or sorned that year. It has nothing to do with how many 635csis were first registered in 2010.
You see?
Yes I see, but I'm not interested in knowing how many 67 fastbacks there are registered. I ant to know about 66's ...So the 2010 figure for a 635csi shows all the 635csis that were taxed or sorned that year. It has nothing to do with how many 635csis were first registered in 2010.

I don't think this site can differentiate between a 1966 Mustang fastback and a 67 coupe can it?
It ight tell you how amny 635CSis were registered but can it tel you of which year of manufacture? In which case ... no good - maybe for that model of BMs it is okay cos they're all the same
For all of you interested in data for specific years, I've just updated the website. If you go to the page for a specific make model (eg: Mustang GT), you'll now also get a breakdown of all cars on the road in 2010 by year of registration.
Enjoy!

My car doesn`t show up as it would most likely be in a seperate catagory for low production cars. How do i find where it might be listed, it is a Fairthorpe. Many thanks for any help............Martin
I suspect it's listed under 'Other British', along with loads of other very interesting stuff -- the oldest cars in that category are from 1900, and apparently one of those is taxed and tested!Unfortunately it all relies on data entered by the DVLA, so there's always going to be inaccuracies due to the monkeys keying in the data in Swansea. For example, a lot of marques have a 'missing' model category containing thousands of cars - no doubt due to someone who can't be bothered to fill in all the boxes!

Probably lumped with standard Sierra cosworth
Only 77 Focus RS500 -a quick drop from the 101 registered
It's showing 77 licensed and 9 SORN so that's 86 total. Only 77 Focus RS500 -a quick drop from the 101 registered
It's not too hard to believe that there are 15 cars either written off, not declared, sold abroad, converted to track cars, stolen etc., to explain the missing cars.

.. and another DVLA spreadsheet I have here shows only 93 registered in 2010, so I'm guessing there's even fewer missing ones to account for It's not too hard to believe that there are 15 cars either written off, not declared, sold abroad, converted to track cars, stolen etc., to explain the missing cars.

Yes, thanks - but what is a Mustang GT?Enjoy!
The GT was a specific option on a coupe, fastback or convertible ... and it says there are 2 for 1966 - which is plainly wrong - I know of loads!
If I put in coupe or fastback it shows nothing and I STILL can't get to see how many 1966 Ford Mustangs (coupe, fastback, convertible etc) there are currently registered ...

Put simply, it's what the DVLA thinks the car is, and the numbers are how many of that model were first registered in that year. If they were imported from the states, then I believe they'll be listed under the year they were imported, rather than their year of manufacture...That's all the information that the DfT has chosen to release so far, so I'm afraid I can't make it any more accurate for you.

The database appears, from some searching on the government site rather than the mash up, and from discussion elsewhere on PH, to be wildly inaccurate. It does appear to include cars subject to a SORN, If it were accurate, it would still be mildly interesting for classics as it would show how many are left now.
IMPO it's a decent effort - one step on from simply having data available in a very large Excel doc. Some of the entries may appear to be inaccurate; usually this is down to a significant number of cars listed within 'Other' or 'Unknown'. You may recall Top Gear did an 'endangered cars' feature recently - whilst the data in that was as accurate as possible, if you interpret it to the letter, it claims there's only one Maserati Mistral on the road in the UK (which is evidently not true).Breadvan73 said:

One of my mates has one of the 7 remaining Bristol 410s.
As I have seen several 410s at a local garage and on the road in London, I think that there are many more than seven still going. Only 12 of mine (Fiat Dino Spyder) plus 4 sorn'd of which mine is one.
Doesn't differentiate between the 2000 and 2400 models.
I'd guess that's fairly accurate. I've only ever seen three others - one at Goodwood FoS on display, one on the way to Le Mans a few years ago and one on my local high st. in SW London.
