Ford Granada 2.8 Ghia
Discussion
Ah! - The Mk2 Granada!
You too could be Gary King cool! - After all, you can't beat "The Beast!": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dshmyllg2HE
(Must have been a bugger of a job changing the carburettor on a fuel injected car! )
Always liked the MK2 Granada in 2.8i Ghia X trim (Ideally in better condition than Gary King's though! )
I remember as a kid, being in the back seat of My Dad's old FIAT 128, going down the motorway to Devon for a holiday when suddenly there where sirens blaring behind us. I turned round to look out of the rear window to see a police 2.8i Ghia X "Jam Sandwich" sitting low to ground, with lights flashing away, and the officers pointing for My Dad to pull over.
Turned out Dad had been belting down the motorway at 80mph, in lane 3 with a trailer on the back! He told the Police Officers that he had forgotten he had the trailer on the back, hence him going 30 mph over the limit for the vehicle, and being in a lane he wasn't allowed to be in!
Incredibly, they decided to ignore the excessive speed as they said it wasn't causing an issue as far as they were concerned, and simply gave him a ticket for being for being in the wrong lane! (Could you imagine that happening today!)
I remember thinking how cool the Granada looked as it passed us once we got going again!
Thats the one I saw.
st, why have you shown me???You're interest in the car may have been the cause of the owner deciding to sell it!

Oh yes, MkII Granny 2.8i Ghia X, velour seats, automatic gearbox. Lush!
My Grandad used to have a 2.8i Ghia X Executive and I was blown away at the time at how plush the interior was and the leather seats just looked so sweet. I thought it was an amazing motor and I've always been a big fan of that shape.
The first car I bought myself was an '82 2.0L, which was followed by a 2.8 Injection estate. Many years later I realised how cheap they'd got, and in quite quick succession bought a 2.8i Ghia X Executive, a 2.8i Ghia X estate, a 2.8 Ghia estate, a manual 2.8i Ghia X saloon, a pre-facelift 2.3GL, and finally another 2.8i Ghia X.
Sadly the two I have left haven't been on the road for a while, but who knows - with prices firming up perhaps it's time to move one of them on...
Here's the fleet at the most extreme point:

My Dad still has his 1993 Granada Scorpio Cosworth that he's had since 1994 and it's still in lovely condition and it's been a garage queen for a few year's now.
It's still a cracking car for its age and so lovely and smooth to drive, it's a pretty rare car now as well too.
Lucky man - that sounds like the ultimate Granada! It's still a cracking car for its age and so lovely and smooth to drive, it's a pretty rare car now as well too.
I have looked at them on and off over they years - also looked at the 4X4 models as although they are non-Cosworth, they are all manuals!

I loved both of my Sierra XR4x4's being a manual so I would imagine the 4x4 Granada to be a cracking motor, plus even when they were on sale they were seriously rare, so getting hold of one now would be ace.
My Parents had a 2.3 GL gold estate one T reg.
I have fond memories of going over the alps on a family trip to the south of Italy back in 1981. I got the boot to my self while my 2 older sisters got the rear seats.
We kept it until the early 90s, i did manage to blow it up once when i lent it for a trip to the local dump, the timing gear snapped as it was made of the plastic. My mother was not happy with me, but she was impressed in the end as i removed the engine, stripped it down and fixed it in 2 days.
My dad always lusted after the 2.8 Ghia and although he had the money would never buy one. When we go to car shows now and see one he always said "should have brought one" it was not the money, he just did not want to appear flash !

I remember the Mark II coming out in 77/78. We had a 2.3GL in that colour, DUD2V. Was that Solar gold? They were pretty highly regarded and generally comparable to a 528i or Merc 280 of the time - not something you could say about the Scorpio.

My dad's 528 was new. He had a lot of trouble with it. It was significantly less reliable than the 3.6 litre Jag he replaced it with - which though it wasn't fault free, but much better than the BMW. The Granada never had a single problem and felt really solidly put together.
It must be said though that the Ford's upholstery doesn't seem to last so well as either the BMW or the Jag. The velour on most Granadas seems to have gone quite baggy now - I wonder if the foam shrinks in the same way that '70s Jag seem to, leaving their head restraints looking deflated.
