I'm using the TR this winter – nice and cosy today with the hard-top on. I used one as a daily when they were only-just-a-classic in the 1980s, don't see why it should be any different now and this TR isn't actually falling apart like the last one was.

Good idea. I had a ratty TR6 a few years back and I used it all year round with the hard top on. I really love using a classic in the filthy weather.

I’m struggling to use my Etype in the salt tbh and it leaks like a sieve.

My current TR6 is rock hard and original but scruffy. I’ll fill it with dinotrol and use it continuously this year.

I’ve fitted grp wheelarch liners to mine (from Revington TR). These fit incredibly well and keep all the wet stuff away from those nooks and crannies in the wings. Squirted a ton of Dinitrol up there first to be on the safe side.

(later that evening)

Off topic, but that looks fantastic. smile

Even more off topic, why aren't TR6 wheels more generally used as they really are cool.

Been looking at SE4 Scimitars recently (bidded on the Bonhams one which sold yesterday) and stumbled across this one with TR6 wheels:

https://percivalmotorco.co.uk/1967_Reliant_Coupe_S...

The wheels look absolutely fantastic on this.

My mrs. moaned at me so I missed out on the Bonhams car by £500. frown

Thanks smile

I’m on a mission to see how dirty I can bear to get it before I relent and wash it.

I do like those TR6 (also Tr250 and so on) with hardtop, they look cool, in the uS you see those often with a V8, hm... even more cool lol, a while ago there was such nice one on carsandclassics with V8, very nicely done, sadly for me a RHD but stil lurking at those,

plus: classic, roadtax free, old style extra's/simple = easier to repair things, stil lots of parts to get for (I believe) and a very acceptable car for most people, a lot thumbs up I guess.

I’ve always had a liking for the TR6 but never owned one - my mate’s older brother had a French blue one in the early ‘80s - 8 DBK - which he left outside over winter with no protection after which the block cracked - sold for £350. Still makes me mad to this day..

My C36 and 300SL are stored between October and April, and always have been. The Cayman lives outside, but I quite enjoy the process of buying a shed to use in the salty months.

I always limited myself to a £1k budget, and not that long ago, it would have secured you a decent W124.

Cars do deteriorate at a pretty alarming rate if not used .
If you're worried about winter use ,get them coated underneath properly ,serviced for winter use and then go and enjoy them . With the exception that if the weather is really bleak then take the modern boring vehicle.

My Father used to lay up his Singer Le Mans every winter. Every spring it took quite a bit of work to recommission it. Things like the seals in the wheel cylinder would leak and the reverse spiral of the half shaft seal and the crank end seals would dribble oil over the winter.

One year he kept it on the road for the nice sunny days and everything was fine, everything kept working and we had the added bonus great trips out on crisp winter days.

Although the write-up said the paintwork wasn't great up close, but I could have lived with it. smile

I'd use more of mine if the weather was better but I get no pleasure driving in the cold and wet. Sure, a nice crisp sunny day in winter is great top down but not worth getting the cars out for four or five random days.

Cars don't deteriorate if they're inside but started and thoroughly warmed and given a brief drive once or twice a month.

Quote all just for that pic!
It looks very like the one owned by Sid Hansen the RAC Scrutineer in the 1980s. He would turn up at Harewood and other places in it, looked lovely then, wonder what happened to it. Wonder if I can find a pic in an old album.

297 According to the blurb.

Not sure of the 2.5/3.0 Essex split though.

Run them when you can. I avoid salt and meaningful rain but otherwise enjoy! Not sure in the point of preserving for the next owner at the detriment of your own enjoyment. Today was a great example- took the Stag out for an hour. Perfect!

Ah, but then it could feature in classics left to rot

Of course by avoiding the salt and st, you're saving yourself some rot & grief when the thing disintegrates
