Help Facel Vega, Facel 2

HK500's must be worse? I lived with mine in London for 10 years and knew every rat run that was available so that I could get out of traffic and get some air through it. Putting a big electric fan on it transformed my ability to use the car. But that meant changing from Dynamo to alternator etc. It's also a warm car to sit in. There is so much glass.

HK's are certainly NOT worse as it was the change to the lower bodyline that caused the extraordinary design fault in the Facel II.At least the water had to go THROUGH the big HK radiator rather than round the outside of the Facel II radiator.Unbelievable. Facelvega said:
Wow! I didn't know that. I have learnt something new today! Thank you.
The big HK radiator was too tall to fit the facel II.Facels brilliant solution was to fit a side tank connecting the upper and lower tanks. The bottom hose connection was half way up the side tank.Sadly as top and bottom tanks are connected directly, the water just takes the easiest path and avoids going through the core at all !! The lack of flow through the core causes an exponential sludging up problem. The fitting later of a separate [ ugly ]header tank on the n/s rockerbox was an ineffectual attempt to cure the overheating problem.Obviously no one at facel realised the real cause. One of my old Facel II's is for sale here. Not too dear either....Nice new interior., http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/classic-car-pa...
Absolutely thrilled to see a Facel 11 being driven on the A30 towards Exeter today, Saturday. It was LNG44, owned by Freddy P-R; both my wife and I spotted him and he was fairly hustling it along. Good on yer, Freddy. (For pic, see the first page of this thread). Incidentally, apart from VW Campers, the only other classics were an MG Magnette (old version) and an Austin Healey Sprite. But the Facel had me grinning all the way home. I hope I do that for other people when I drive mine!!
Does anyone want an ex California FV3B converted to RHD.Never ever been rusty or abused.Body repainted in black.I am just refitting the restored electric windows and then will be reconverting it to LHD for sale in europe. The mechanics including engine were completely rebuilt some time ago but the car has not yet been finished and needs the interior sorting out.The seats are very good grey leather ex HK500 as is the rest of the interior trim [the original had been redone in plastic in the USA and was s..t]

UK Facellia registration PYT 6
Spent this morning at a classic car meet in the centre of Warwick. Whilst talking to someone I mentioned that I had a Facel and instead of getting the usual blank look he said 'Oh, my dad had one of those...I'll just go and get him!'
Apparently he owned a Facellia with the above registration which he really enjoyed. I'm not sure if he bought it new, but he got it from HWM. It suffered the usual cylinder liner problems but then had its front offside wing demolished by another motorist. Apparently fixing that proved expensive - he remembers the price of the front bumper being a real shock!
He used the car around the Bridgenorth area in the mid to late '60s. He would be really interested to know if the car survives today and its history subsequent to his ownership. Sorry I don't have a chassis number and I know Facels tend to change registrations regularly.
Facelman, has this one been through your hands?
If anyone has any info I'll pass it on to the gentleman. I know it would make his day...so your help would be appreciated.

Good morning. According to records, PYT6 is a 4-seater Coupe, chassis number FAA403, originally delivered in December 1960. When the Facel Register was published in 1990, Eric Philpott, long time president of the Facel Vega Car Club, owned the car at that time, and it would seem that he still owned the car - albeit now in poor condition - at the time of his death a year or so ago. I'm not sure if it has since been sold or not, but in theory, the car does still exist, although - like many Facels - not on the road. I will attempt to find out more.
More on PYT 6 from Richard Stevens, Facel Vega Car Club historian:
Original owner of PYT 6 was one E A Marks of Robertson & Woodcock Ltd, makers of Trebor sweets (a Marks was one of the founders so assume this was a family member). Subsequent owners have included Stevens himself and also a man who went to jail!
Stevens adds: The car was last heard of in derelict state (no engine or gearbox, and generally miserable) sitting outside Eric Philpott's house. Stevens believes that a member of the Philpott family plans to use parts as necessary to restore a Facellia F2B convertible they also own, thereafter to scrap or otherwise dispose of the Facellia four-seater, the original PYT 6.
Sounds as though it could therefore be heading for a sad demise, unless someone can at some stage rescue it.

It has indeed been through my hands.I fitted a Rover V8 out of an MGB V8 with gearbox, and subsequently took the last boss of Facel Paul Badre out for a spin in it.It then went to RS and then to Phillpott. It is no longer on the road or restorable. It has lived outside for fifteen years or so without a cover. The chassis number is FAA 403 i think and it is still PYT6.Spent this morning at a classic car meet in the centre of Warwick.
