Nah! Bloody good Reps car back in the day. Much better drivers car than a 1.6L Sierra or Cavalier. They went well for a 1.6 and had a really good chassis.
Who said that BG?

Well Autocar did in their three car shoot out about twenty years ago. I have a copy of that article. They were almost apologetic in coming to that correct conclusion no doubt due to the huge inbred prejudice about these cars. They were right though. It was the best of the bunch. I regularly drove all three back in the day.

Prejudice... What prejudice was that John Boy?

Well consider this. Of all the cars in that lengthy and much appreciated series of pictures on this thread, thanks for those by the way RESSE, appreciated, out of the predictable pack of circulating 12yearold PH-jackal mindsets, they chose the humble Montego to predate upon.

You could have chosen a higher spec version of the Montego, like this one I see most days:~

Even so, the PH-jackals would still predictably emerge with their negativity.

You know what John? it's such a sad state of affairs, the same old same old with the AR subject, that after posting, I thought better of it, and deleted it, as it would just start an argument, folks would post that it was a POS, I would argue otherwise, and I would be the one accused of trolling.

The Maestro was a POS though, with asthmatic engines, imprecise cable change gears and iffy build quality, however the space available was amazing and ours was reliable.

I had loads of fun in my Dad's old 1.3 Maestro City (I called it the maestrocity, but few people laughed) An almost final fling for the venerable A series, it went quick enough if you thrashed it and took me and a mate around this sceptred isle with no bother, covering nearly 2000 miles in a fortnight on a touring holiday. Quite economical and as mentioned, loads of space inside. We decided at the outset to take a rucksack full of cassettes and just pick randomly from it as we went along. We were doing the Austin Rover tape deck shuffle long before the ipod came along. Good times and a good vehicle for the job at the time. It also served as a good taxi when I had it on long term loan from the old boy after a bit of surgery (him not the car) I ferried groups of friends around London in it, did a bit of dodgy minicabbing (arguing with the Nigerian guys hanging around the corner of Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Street was fun!) and it only got vommed in once - he gave me an extra score...was quite sad when it had to go to the scrappy....

I want to add a Tiger to my collection, but preferably the series 2 with the twin headlamps and better dash.

Yes - shame there weren't a few more cars but I think the clash of dates with the show at the NEC would have been the reason.

Pendant mode-on :~

Think you could be correct there although the way it appears on my Laptop's screen, could be Champagne. First one I ever drove back in 1984 was Champagne.

Arran Beige does not ring a bell. Maybe had in mind Rattan Beige, a much richer colour than either Arum White or Champagne. Do not think it's that.

Pedant mode-off ... wink

Arran Beige seems to be more of a Land Rover colour
Arum white was around in 1985 B reg and got replaced by Diamond white.
Dunno if Arum white replaced Champagne -i guess it probably did (although they look 99% similar)
