Nah! Bloody good Reps car back in the day. Much better drivers car than a 1.6L Sierra or Cavalier. They went well for a 1.6 and had a really good chassis.
Who said that BG?Well Autocar did in their three car shoot out about twenty years ago. I have a copy of that article. They were almost apologetic in coming to that correct conclusion no doubt due to the huge inbred prejudice about these cars. They were right though. It was the best of the bunch. I regularly drove all three back in the day.
Prejudice... What prejudice was that John Boy?
Well consider this. Of all the cars in that lengthy and much appreciated series of pictures on this thread, thanks for those by the way RESSE, appreciated, out of the predictable pack of circulating 12yearold PH-jackal mindsets, they chose the humble Montego to predate upon.
You could have chosen a higher spec version of the Montego, like this one I see most days:~
Even so, the PH-jackals would still predictably emerge with their negativity.

You know what John? it's such a sad state of affairs, the same old same old with the AR subject, that after posting, I thought better of it, and deleted it, as it would just start an argument, folks would post that it was a POS, I would argue otherwise, and I would be the one accused of trolling.Balmoral Green said:

The Maestro was a POS though, with asthmatic engines, imprecise cable change gears and iffy build quality, however the space available was amazing and ours was reliable.wibble cb said:

1.6L in Arran Beige with Brushwood trim.Think you could be correct there although the way it appears on my Laptop's screen, could be Champagne. First one I ever drove back in 1984 was Champagne.
Arran Beige does not ring a bell. Maybe had in mind Rattan Beige, a much richer colour than either Arum White or Champagne. Do not think it's that.
Pedant mode-off ...

Arum white was around in 1985 B reg and got replaced by Diamond white.
Dunno if Arum white replaced Champagne -i guess it probably did (although they look 99% similar)
