My apologies.the way the Daily Wail were bumming it up you'd think it was a field full of 250GTOs and Bugatti Royales, not just some rusty XJ40s and BMW 7 series
After posting a pic of a TVR wedge here sometime in Jan/Feb a member of the "Wedge" forum
posted it in there bit and then after providing the location then the address a South
London "wedger" went and looked at it and it has now been rescued and undergoing a resto.

Question.
If one was to 'discover' a field of old classic cars, and 'rescued' them, the chances are that no papaer work for any off them exits. So what's the procudure to get any of them registered again?
Depends when it was last registered/taxed. If it was pre-1983, it won't be under the new DVLA V5 system, so it won't ever have had a modern log book. The procedure in this case is to complete a V765 'Application to register a vehicle under its original registration number'
You will need a letter from an owners club or authority on the marque confirming the model and history of the vehicle - they may well wish to inspect the vehicles engine and chassis numbers, although with modern cameras and email, this can usually now be done electronically.
You then send off the V765, with the letter from the owners club, copies of any paperwork you have, and a big wadge of photographs to the DVLA, and keep your fingers crossed.
They may ask you to take it somewhere for an inspection, but most of the time they will issue a log book.
That's the procedure I've just gone through with the 1936 Vauxhall 12/6 - last registered/MOT'd in 1980.

Does this make you the legal owner of the car or merely it's registered keeper? (as these are not the same thing!)The procedure in this case is to complete a V765 'Application to register a vehicle under its original registration number'

The reason I ask is because if you are merely declared the registered keeper and not the legal owner, is there not the risk that if a previous owner of the car came forward and proved that they are the rightful legal owner of the car, then you'd have to forfeit the vehicle back to them?
