OffRhode? You need a Land Rover, but not just any Land Rover. You need a roofless 109 with polished body panels instead of paint. It was like a chrome wrap but without the wrap or the chrome. biggrin

The 109 looks too long topless (And the big girls blouse has still got the screen up too! wink )

The shorter wheelbase Land Rovers suit it better! - A mate had an 88 canvas top with massive off road tyres years ago which we stripped down to no roof, half doors and windscreen down [seemed like a good idea at the time! smile ], one roasting hot Sunday. It bounced around like a kangaroo over the bumps in the road, was as windy as hell, and we ate a fair few bugs as we drove along, but it was an absolute hoot!

I saw it on Eutotunnel back from LeMans last night, had 2 other modded Allegros with it. Utterly fantastic
I passed them on my way back from France just before Le Mans , they were heading south as I was travelling north , the did indeed look great , and stood out from the lines of porches and bentleys

M25 the other day, pouring rain, and what do we see? Beautiful Aston Martin DB4. Just wonderful to see a car this valuable being used as it was meant to be.

Here a couple for you. A most wonderful completely original Aston Martin DB5, rust bubbles, ageing chrome and parked in the press area at Le Mans last week.

Then, at our monthly meeting yesterday, I saw this. When did you last see one?

No photo, as I was driving behind it down a dual carriageway, but I recently spotted a 'Lightweight' Air Portable Land Rover in Frimley. The screen was folded flat, the doors and tailgate had been removed, although it still had the tube frame for the canvas tilt in place. I felt sorry for the chap driving it, as it might have seemed like a good idea when he left the house but we were now heading into the first few large drops of a heavy rain shower. He looked supremely cool in his Rover, but as the rain took hold I felt sooo sorry for him, sitting there all exposed like that in just a t-shirt. I just flicked on the wipers, turned up the heater in my boring econobox' and tried to remember what it was like driving with my face exposed getting stung by driving rain to the point where I couldn't see where I was going...

I saw something similar the other day - an E-type roadster, one family owner from new, rusty door bottoms and generally used air about it. Much as I love a nice clean car, there's something about well-used that looks good.

You don't think he took it out for a blast and just caught in one of the sudden downpours we get nowadays?

I'm sure you're right and he didn't expect rain. Just impressed he took it for a blast at all, let alone on the M25
(btw, I like your Mustang, uk66fastback, very nice)

The new prototype lightweight D-type spotted hiding near the circuit. it has full LED running lights as per the other photo of the Audi and Toyota LMP1 cars.

On a more mundane note, here's a Vauxhall 1800 Magnum on the M6 in Cumbria. Best described as a sporty/posh Viva.

What was the difference between a Vauxhall Magnum and a Firenza?
