A 'period' classics pictures thread (Mk II)
Discussion
For the past 35 years, I’ve sported a SB&S and goatee. My last haircut was October 2019; this was caused by a mixture of location and work commitments, although the goatee remains well groomed. I’m begging to resemble one of those poncey Old English Sheepdogs at Crufts.
All l now need to do is convince Mrs. DG to refrain from ablutions (won’t happen) find some yoof to score me pot, man, and then I can embrace my inner hippy.
The new look, seems have been met, with almost universal approval. I on the other hand, think at 60 years old, I just look an utter plonker.

Wouldn't that be more fitting for the Spotted Ordinary Abandoned Vehicles thread? All l now need to do is convince Mrs. DG to refrain from ablutions (won’t happen) find some yoof to score me pot, man, and then I can embrace my inner hippy.

Interesting that a 1965 Merc is described as a "classic" in 1977. Can you imagine reading about a 2008 CLK Merc in Classic Cars today? Both the Merc and the Facel would be c £10k in today's money - that would have been quite the investment back then - especially the Facel. Immaculate ones go for big money these days.
Wasn't sure if I was missing the Woosh Parrot, as there was a CLK55 featured (buyer guide) in the November 2020 Classic Cars magazine. P5BNij said:
1966, the winner of the 'name the new Alfa Romeo Spider model' competition is handed the keys to his prize....

I remember reading about this in C&SC in the early eighties. Guidibaldi Trionfi from Brescia suggested "Duetto", and won ahead of 100,000 or so other suggestions. Alfa never officially used "Duetto" though, simply calling the car "Spider".![](https://thumbsnap.com/sc/z5yRTkiZ.jpg)
The C&SC article mentioned some of the more random names suggested, including (apparently) "Hitler"
