Looking at biting the bullet on my soft dash and getting the body work fully sorted. Got an estimate for £2.5k for a respray with a bit of welding thrown in to repair the lower tailgate. and rear panels. All the underside / floor pan is smothered in waxoyl so this doesn't need any attention. Putting together a list of things that need doing to get the rest up to scratch:
A couple of things I am pondering:
The only place I can find a glass sunroof seal is Atlantice British in the US. Which says it's the same as the P38 sunroof seal. This doesn't sound right to me.
I am waiting on pricing for fitting the carpet set. Anyone have any idea how much to budget?
Instead of having the lower tailgate repaired should I invest in a fibreglass one? These now seem difficult to source and I have seen some concerns that some are too flimsy.
Adding all the costs of the bit's for the bumpers and spoiler almost comes to the price of a Brooklands kit. I quite like the styling of these as it gives it a more modern appearance but I do go off road occasionally and I suspect it is far less rugged than the original bumpers.

1992 Classic 3.9 V8 Cat, I have a cheap distributor in the car, and i've never been happy with it.
Is this the correct OEM Dizzy ?

I think all UK models were.

Much love for the Range Rover classic!
Here is the 1972 Range Rover I used to drive to and from France when racing (usually towing the Bowler 100" on a trailer) where said Range Rover earned it's keep as service van.
It was the first Range Rover registered in Worcestershire and one of the first 1500 built, this was confirmed when I had to do some work on the transfer box and found the centre LSD pack!
At some point in it's past it was fitted with a 3.9 Rover V8 on SU carbs and had no trouble towing. It averaged 15mpg when we drove to the Rally des Cimes in the Pyrenees (with the Bowler racer on the trailer).
Pictured here at Calais after the Cidre et Pommiers rally in 2004:

When the headliner was done on my 1991 3.9 rather than standard they used an off the shelf version with a fibreglass shell, I will try and dig out the bill and look for the supplier, apparently much easier to fit and more long lasting.

very cool that. must have been a bit of a petrol bill though?!
Thank you Squirdan!I can't remember the port of arrival but think it was either:
793km = 495 miles St Malo
947km = 591 miles Dieppe
Might have been Caen come to think of it...
With a destination of Mauleon / Tardets Sorholus in the Pyrennes.
The shorter trip needs 33 gallons and I can remember stopping for fuel in a small town. Fuel tank capacity around 80 litres but the gauge didn't work so we refuelled when the warning light lit which was usually 60 litres or so.
I'll dig out the route notes cause I want to know which port we started at. I do remember the preferred dual carriageway / autoroute having roadworks and the "DEVIATION" signs ran out leaving us navigating by compass on "D" roads in gorgeous rural scenery for quite some time.
Edited:
Found my notes on the route with timings and distance based on an average of 90km/h.
Port of departure was Le Havre!
Route was Alencon, Le Mans, Tours, Poitiers, Angouleme, Bordeaux, Castets, Dax, Orthez, Osserain, Mauleon
Total 757km / 478miles
Two tanks of fuel used (the route was uphill from Dax)
Happy days!

Sad, but not wholly unexpected times...my 91 SE failed its MOT yesterday.
Rusty sills and body mounts. I had the front mounts sorted for last year so not a shocker that this year more needs doing to it, despite it living inside.
The rest of it makes it worth keeping on the road, especially as prices are on the up, even for the later 4 doors. Mechanicals all good, body is decent and very presentable. Inner wings are patched but fine although the rear wheel arches are scabby. My mechanic (local agricultural/land rover engineer) thinks it's great to drive and seems to want to find economical ways of keeping it solid.
I know I should have both sills and rear arches replaced but suspect this is well over £1000? Has anyone paid to have this done recently? I don't have the skills to do it myself sadly.
cheers

I ordered a new rear bumper last year and it came...unpainted.
So you might be painting your new one anyway!
Hmm. The pictures show them painted. So you might be painting your new one anyway!
Or is that just a black coloured primer to prevent them rusting?
Maybe my unpainted/uuncoated one last year was a duffer?

Mine is a Britpart one and it does appear to be powder coated. Not happy with the quality on it though so going to get it sprayed anyway.Maybe my unpainted/uuncoated one last year was a duffer?
