IIRC Fangio found 'sighting' apexes difficult due to the enclosed bodywork. He managed a clout a few unforgiving oil drums.

did not knew that, costly I bet, but I guess 'form follows function' no idea from the drivers seat how difficult the front could be, would also depends how big a person is I guess, most drivers (not all) are light and small(ish)

Yes, Fangio always said he preferred the open wheel version. Moss, however, was happy in the enclosed car. Seems funny these days that enclosed cars could run in Formula One Grand Prix

Towards the end of this 'behind the scenes' look at the making of 'Steptoe & Son' from 1970 there's some nice footage of writers Galton & Simpson with their Bentley and Rolls Royce...

The '64 Rolls Royce S3 Silver Cloud 'BWF 224B' is still on the road.

I had a red one on a P plate in 1988. I think I was just given it. They were decent cars really - but I drove this one to the scrapyard and got 50 quid after two months free motoring.

Thanks Nij - the year of my birth.

Anyone significantly younger than me (of which there are many...) will likely be horrified by the lack of crash helmets, seat belts and the number of unrestrained children in front seats as well as back. But that's how it was then, I guess - and most of us survived.

You've reminded me of a blast up the M6 in my uncle's brand new Broadspeed 3 litre Capri, he was driving, my dad was in the front passenger seat with me and my two cousins in the back - we were doing about 80mph when he braked suddenly and the three of us in the back were shoved forward into a heap of tangled limbs, with me almost landing in my dad's lap... we just dusted ourselves down and laughed our heads off!

We were free back then. All of these laws (which undoubtedly keep us safer) insidiously chip away at our freedom until one day without realising it, it will be gone. Smoking next but they're already gunning for sugar and meat. Alcohol has been under fire for years. More and more limitations on car use. We'll all be living long and very boring lives.

Only if you carry on living in this dump. I'm now planning my exit and living somewhere nice for my later years.

With Sterling's value having dropped so far, you may struggle to afford living abroad whistle

I wonder if that's a Mk.2 Cooper or S in the foreground of the St.Tropez shot?

Great shot of Maccy D's in Kentish Town in the 80's, an era I remember it well from. Note the Met. Traf Pol BMW RT m/c parked outside Maccy D's......laugh

Same for me. And the number of years forwards is diminishing rapidly eek

Remarkably strong representation of British manufacturers.
