I think those Rovers are actually P7 prototypes, ie the 5-cylinder version of the P6 being considered before the V8 came along, hence the slightly extended front. The P6 was already in production before the square headlight one was registered. Great photos, though, keep them coming.Early P6 prototypes on test....

One car in a batch of "Pilot Builds" to validate "Production Tooling" or identify build problems. Cars from final Pilot Build phase tend to be saleable units. This terminology is not Rover's. I wonder how rigorous their production prove-out was back in 1963 compared to today. Impact of warranty issues was probably less severe.Reg number 104 FJJ
