What an amazing pistonheaded/petrolhead Sunday down here in West Sussex! The roads have been crawling with interesting machinery. We've had three events in close proximity: first of all, the Goodwood Breakfast Club SuperCar Sunday with an incredible turn-out, surely 15,000+ people. There were more McLarens, Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Aston Martins, Porsches than you can possibly imagine, plus the occasional Pagani, Ariel Atom, Mercedes SLS, McLaren Mercedes etc, with plenty more in the car parks. It was busy busy busy. Not too many older cars exhibited, but lots more in the car parks.

Then went back to my local pub where the car park was cordoned off for a Rolls Royce meeting; only about half a dozen when I turned up but obviously many more expected. When I returned, just leaving was a monster with horizontal radiator slats, signifying something especially old.

I had been up the road to the new Cowdray Park classic car meeting, a nice, spacious event celebrating British cars including a 1930 Aston Martin International in exceptional condition, ex-Paul McCartney DB4, lots of MGAs, MGBs, MGCs and others including a trio of Magnettes. Obviously a brace of E-types, two Daimler Darts, lots of Triumphs, not an XK in sight but many other delights. Left to fill up at a local filling station, pulled in alongside a Volvo P1800, then off to a local pub where there were three (rented?) McLarens. Had a pint and left as a Morris 8 drove past.

I think I've had my fill of classics for several weeks!

I didn't know Paul McCartney owned a DB4, I thought he owned a DB5 and a DB6.

I've only owned one of this model Anglia and not particularly knowledgeable on them.

This one was left hand drive with a Deluxe badge on one side of the boot lid and a Sportsman badge on the other.

It certainly was a tidy looking car ....

A quick Google reveals all ! ....

" During 1961, Ford took the opportunity to introduce a European only variant in to the Anglia family called the Sportsman.
The Sportsman was built by Ford of Belgium, at Antwerp, was based on the 997cc Anglia deluxe and even carried it's own Advertisements and Brochures extolling the virtues of the model as a sporting saloon. The Ford Anglia Sportsman was to all intents and purposes a normal Anglia deluxe, except that the spare wheel was mounted on the outside of the boot lid. This gave the Anglia far more luggage space in the boot, and was also Ford’s attempt to give the Anglia a more up-market appearance by adopting the same practice that was being used on luxury American models at the time, with the fitment of "Continental Style” spare wheel holders "

Looks like the one I saw at the park today had lost its Conti mount spare wheel !

A lovely blue Austin Six, top down, parked in the car park at The Vyne today.

And yesterday, a ropey looking Triumph Acclaim ('A' plater) in a washed-out pale yellow colour, in Frimley.

This was absolutely immaculate and looked totally original. It was sharing the pub car park with several Beetles that must have been on a run out.

This beauty was given an airing during lunch break racing at Hockenheimring last weekend.
