Interesting the way the buses have turned into Routemasters. I'm also puzzled as to why he would replace the 'mystery car' - maybe a black cab reinforces the fact it is London, as if a herd of Routemasters doesn't do this already!

However, let's not be too harsh about the painting, I couldn't do it.
It's a commission and the client wanted that model of bus and a taxi to be seen.

Good to see that Ace ad.

As you've highlighted the front wheel, something that has confused me from the start is how far the tyre sits inside the wheelwell. The rear is the same, it would seem that the rear axle is almost inside the car.

Hi there. A bit late seeing this but if anyone is interested I know a bit about the Arnott as my father bought it from Daphne Arnott. I can confirm that there was only 1 GT car, this was the 1957 Le Mans car. I believe there were more than one of the open to car, one of which went to Me Mans in 1955. I believe at least one of the open cars is around in the UK. Tjeres plenty of photos of this car but there not much on the 1957 car.. I can confirm there was no development of the 1957 car after Le Mans other than to return the engine to Climax. When my dad bought it the engine was still boxed waiting to be re-installed. It also had a ding in the bonnet from the trailer ride home.. I can confirm the 1957 car is now in the USA. I've been lucky enough to speak to the very nice man who owns it now, I think he's had it for some years before restoring it. It's now looking pretty much as it did in 1957. If you want to ask anything else I'll do my best to help..
Thanks for info ---

I was thinking about this today...every time I look at this photo and the other threads about it, I am starting more and more to think of it as a poster for a horror film about a ghostly, spectral car which haunts the streets of London, and doesn't actually exist!

(Yes, I am strange.)

This thread has been annoying me again lately.

This little fella is almost certainly unrelated but you can see commonalities in some design ideas. Reverse rake lights, door, wheels...

That's an interesting machine............

Nothing to do with the original Mystery Car but following on from the special bodied Jowett Jupiter shown above here is another one-off on a Jupiter chassis.
Jowett Jupiter - 1953 Monte Carlo Rally.

I'm not too sure what you mean.

Lady rally drivers from the 1950's
Lola is sitting far right next to Sheila Van Damm and Pat Moss

Sorry - it's a song by the Kinks (1970).

One verse: "Why she walk like a woman but talk like a man"

I thought everybody knew that song!
Ahh - solved - thanks

In a word, 'yes'. I've spent hours going through Motorsport for the '50s and '60s page by page and drawn a blank; there's nothing that really suggests it's from the same 'family' as the mystery car.
Thanks for your efforts -
