.....Citroen - too new for my tastes.
CX is a '70s design, so not that new.But if too new, would you consider a DS?
Mind, you that goes for everything else on that list apart from the Saab, Volvo & Gilbern (and possibly the Scimitar)

Exactly, I'd love a DS, wanted one for years, but no good for Autotesting.Mind, you that goes for everything else on that list apart from the Saab, Volvo & Gilbern (and possibly the Scimitar)
I think an Amazon is where its at.

Yep....would be my choice from your list.I think an Amazon is where its at.
A guy I knew from my old motor club has a historic rally prepped Amazon, had it 15+ years now and very much used in anger.......it's quick, handles OK, is apparently indestructible and isn't too much of a hassle gets parts, both standard and go-faster bits.
If you’re gonna go for an Amazon, you’d be well advised to join the Volvo Owners Club forum. (I’m ‘Faust’ on there as well). It’s full of helpful advice, and there are a couple of users who restore/sell/supply parts for Amazons who may well know of a good car for sale.
Failing that, give me a shout and I’ll be happy to have a chat about what to look out for etc. (did the same for Crankedup when he was buying… never thought a car designed in the 1950’s could be described as “too modern” but there you go! He was a nice chap though).

A chap called Warren Chmura used to classic rally a DS very successfully, I competed against him a couple of times and his times in the "tests" (like autotesting but not quite so sharp and no reversing) were competitive. Sadly he passed away, while rallying, I think on a long distance event in Africa. Anyway, the point is that the DS was successful!

I bought a 2 door Coupe with webasto earlier this year, a car that had only been driven to/from the MOT station for the past nine years.Have been slowly fixing all the little faults of a little used old car...brakes, back end, fuel lines, dropped in a new 4speed O/D 'box, stainless steel exhaust, new 20mm lowered suspension, a few new poly bushes et al...it's a standard B18 with single Zenith, a Princely 75bhp and top speed of 79mph, but, this old girl has brought more smiles per mile than many a car I've owned, past and present.
and have recently bought and rebuilt these lovelies within matching inlet and exhaust manifolds that I'll install between Christmas and The New Year
Anyway, purpose of message is that an Amazon is one of the very best kept secrets in the classic car world...they're brilliantly stylish, genuinely tough as old boots and have the most wonderful finger tip driving style. As per Faust, above, do join the forum as the knowledge base is tremendous and the guys/girls are uber enthusiastic for the model. Good luck 'Hunting'

Not sure it would suit tests or endurance rallies, but I would find the estate handy.

Did Rover's suffer from cheaper steel used post 74 like Triumph's did?
Yes. Particularly on the leading edge of the rear wings (the edge by the rear doors). The later cars - as in P,R and S reg would rust through there in a couple of years.Sadly, that is the era of the Avacado and Paprika cars.
I am lucky enough to have a works rally P6 from the '60s. White with a black bonnet though.

That's most likely the one but they often a couple for sale. Mine wouldn't be best suited for tests/rallies as it has a webasto and not ideal if things got a little inverted on a rally; even with a cage. There are quite a few guys on the continent who local rally the estate...though not sure the extra unobtanium rear body work would be useful. There is one estate that's had a turbo charged brick engine conversion that tows a trackday/racer Amazon...it makes for a great sight. Was it you who put a call to the forum earlier with a 'wanted' note? Not sure it would suit tests or endurance rallies, but I would find the estate handy.
500hp turbo Amazon......(pity about the stupid music in the video thou....)
