Slightly? It's about twice the weight. The tip seals were weak, NSU developed it to cope with being hammered down autobahns which it did quite well at, but stop-start traffic knackered the seals at very low mileage.

Ford Essex V6 3.0L is the same weight as a SBF V8 5.0L with aluminium heads.

Must have really upset the dynamics of an Ro80. Corners would have been a challenge eek

There's so much variation in quoted engine weights when you try and research them.
Some figures are fully dressed, some bare, some with carbs. & manifolds. Etc. Stock or tubular exhaust manifolds ?

I'm not getting involved !

The V4 conversion was the most common from what I saw in the 1970's.

A 13b seems the most suitable thing to do to one.

Funny how you remember some things, isn't it?

I remember my dad taking me to my first ever Motor Show at the NEC in 1980. I was 11. Obviously the big star was the miniMetro smile but I also recall being captivated by the quattro.

Not because it was especially pretty. Not because it ushered-in a new wave of 4WD performance cars. Not because it had 5 cylinders. Nope, I remember it because it had those four rings on the door.

I aspired to that, but years later when I passed my test I decided against emulating it because "Marina" or "Morris" didn't have the same impact. Also there wasn't much door left to stick it to.

Four overlapping BL Sink Drains of Quality wouldn't have quite the same effect. hehe

I'd been to the Earls Court show already, but my first one at the NEC was in '78 (the first time it was held there) and vividly recall the red TR7 near one of the entrances and almost begging my dad to buy one. He laughed and gave me a pitying look, then said ''you'll never get the six of us in there son''. I didn't care about my siblings comfort, I just wanted him to buy one on the spot!

It wasn't his 300SL.....it was a photo shoot in NYC, and the car was lent by MB for the photo-shoot.

Wartime and no petrol coupons? There's a label on the radiator and sign on the windscreen so I going with being delivered to a dealer from the railway station. That's a heavy load on a wagon, is it a real photograph?

The FB caption did say that it was being delivered & it looks undoctored to me... but it's way before my time.

My 2.7 RS at the end of 1973 when it had been converted to RSR spec. Not the best looking piece of work I’ve ever seen biggrin

And then used in anger

I saw the image on FB too. Somehow (and I can't say why) that doesn't look like it's in England to me.

I would agree with that not being taken in the UK.
