Back in the day, there was a Clubmans 6R4 like that, which used to take part in a local weekend rally on a nearby disused airfield. During the lunch break, the driver would use it to pop down town to the local chippy. You could hear it coming back up the hill from 2 miles away.
the one I posted does have a tax disc on the windscreen. Here's mine, pictured in 87. I did about 500 miles a week for @ 18 months. A pint of oil a week too, otherwise fairly reliable. XR2 equivalent was the Mk1 and quite a bit more expensive, as were the 205 and R5 iirc, with higher running costs.
I quite liked the looks (until they went all white), can't say I ever thought of it as a classic, but still...

Drooling?
My wife had 2 Metros back in the day, they were somewhat prone to rust and engine oil leaks, then I saw the crash test video....
My partner had one when I met her five years ago. It was well maintained but handled terribly, never felt safe and as both of us are a fair bit north of 6ft we felt like we were driving Noddy's car around. That said she had it three years and sold it for a profit. She reckoned an MOT had never set her back more than £150, including the odd spare part and new tyre.My wife had 2 Metros back in the day, they were somewhat prone to rust and engine oil leaks, then I saw the crash test video....
Funnily enough the car was Christened "Bertie".

You could say that about any old car though. Yet we still drive them.
True, I'm sure my 308 is terrible in a crash, but then it's beautiful, sounds fabulous..etc to me.With a Metro I'm not seeing the plus side personally, just my view I know, and Ben in their day they were bad compared to others of similar vintage.

Context is everything though, in 1997 it scored about the same as the BMW 3 series and Saab 900, I think it was 1 or 1.5 stars. Most stuff was poor when NCAP came in.
Clearly massive strides have been made, but even compared to it's peers I think the Metro was bad, in fact I think it holds the accolade for the worst ever pre-2009 result!Balmoral said:
ope, go Google.
I did....I got this...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0eN98IS_WY
Also checking in the EuroNCAP site the only other thing that scored as low was the Nissan Navara which had an airbag issue and when retested got 3*

And it's wrong, you got that because the video clip is wrongly titled, but if you scroll down dismissing the fake news, you get the real worst performer (or just go to NCAP site).
NEWS: Worst-ever score at Euro NCAP crash tests

Landwind
The first Chinese car to be sold in Europe has scored zero — the worst-ever score — in safety tests.
The JiangLing Landwind was displayed at the Frankfurt Motor Show last week and is expected to arrive in British showrooms within months. It is already on sale in Holland, Germany and Belgium and has been billed as the vanguard of a new invasion of Chinese vehicles.
The two-ton 4×4 scored zero stars in crash tests last week by the ADAC, the German automobile club, which carries out tests for Euro NCAP. “It had a catastrophic result,” said a spokesman for the ADAC. “In our 20-year history no car has performed as badly.”
Testers calculated that a driver would be unlikely to survive a head-on collision at 40mph, and in a side-on collision at 30mph the driver would suffer severe head and chest injuries due to a lack of side protection.
