Basic engine isn't bad looking. But its aesthetics are destroyed by that front water tank and axle configuration. Now it's a real ugly duckling.

Just posted in plates thread but thought it would go well here too. My wife’s uncle Michael here who was butler to Sidney Black. Some may know more if this plates history but I understand sold in ‘68 for a record £4500. I’m assuming this photo pre-dates that sale.

Baddesley Colliery, photo by Geoff Dowling....

Great picture, thanks.

It reminds me of one of my late father's favourite stories - he was a herdsman working in Nottinghamshire in the 1950s, at a farm where the grazing fields were either side of the A1. Sometimes, he would have to stop the traffic to move the cows over to the farm's milking sheds. On one of those occasions, he stopped Stirling Moss in a gullwing Mercedes.

A few years ago, I was able to confirm that story - with Sir Stirling. I suppose he might have been humouring me, but memorably said "he should have got his bloody cows out of my way!"

Pillory Street, Nantwich with a varied collection of Brit metal. And a stranded Hillman Minx adding to the congestion smile

That's a nice photo. I still sometimes go in the pub right at the back of the photo.

Even back then, horrible double yellow lines degraded towns. Surely we are capable of imposing the same parking controls without unaesthetic visual intrusion? scratchchin

I always thought they got it the wrong way round. Surely better to use yellow lines to show where you can park

But why intrusive yellow rather than subtle aesthetic road markings possibly backed up by signs? scratchchin

Fair enough, though I wouldn't be too bothered what colour the lines were if they've got cars parked over them. I'd also prefer fewer signs rather than more.

I do like that Zodiac Mk2 (but a Zephyr Mk2 is even nicer) wink

I'd love a Zodiac. Why do you think the lesser model is nicer?Just wondering.

For my tastes, Zodiac Mk2 is over-ornate and I prefer the plainer Zephyr. I feel the same about Mk3s.

If I had the money and I couldn't get a Rover P5b I'd have a 2 tone blue Mk2 Zodiac .

What car is in front of the Super Minx Estate? The resolution on my screen isn't very clear but it looks as if it might be a Series 1 XJ6? The wing line and boot aperture look about right but I'm not so sure about the side. However, at first glance I'd have said that the photo was too oldfir an XJ, it just looks a bit 'old'.

Perhaps it's an Alpine-based special smile

I don’t think so, that has a very flat horizontal boot lid. That car appears to have a steeply sloping boot lid down to bumpers. I have considered and dismissed as “not yet invented” an Austin/Morris 1800, a Simca 1100 hatch and a Peugeot 504. No idea!

Photo by Stephen Burdett - Holman's Siding at Cambourne in Cornwall, 1976.... the 'Aqua' coloured Mini 1275GT on the left would possibly fetch £20k - £25k now if it were in tip top condition.... I think the pale blue vehicle at the far end of the row is a Hillman Imp Husky....

For the loco fans the 'Western' is one of five fitted with the small square air vent on the front, D1012, D1028, D1039, D1056 and D1071, given that D1012 was withdrawn in 1975 and D1039 was withdrawn in 1973 and D1028 didn't have the two headboard mounting brackets on the front it has to be D1056 or D1071!

PH : geekdom matters hehe
