A 'period' classics pictures thread (Mk II)
Discussion
Just posted in plates thread but thought it would go well here too. My wife’s uncle Michael here who was butler to Sidney Black. Some may know more if this plates history but I understand sold in ‘68 for a record £4500. I’m assuming this photo pre-dates that sale.

Great picture, thanks.
It reminds me of one of my late father's favourite stories - he was a herdsman working in Nottinghamshire in the 1950s, at a farm where the grazing fields were either side of the A1. Sometimes, he would have to stop the traffic to move the cows over to the farm's milking sheds. On one of those occasions, he stopped Stirling Moss in a gullwing Mercedes.
A few years ago, I was able to confirm that story - with Sir Stirling. I suppose he might have been humouring me, but memorably said "he should have got his bloody cows out of my way!"

Even back then, horrible double yellow lines degraded towns. Surely we are capable of imposing the same parking controls without unaesthetic visual intrusion?
I always thought they got it the wrong way round. Surely better to use yellow lines to show where you can parkbigothunter said:

But why intrusive yellow rather than subtle aesthetic road markings possibly backed up by signs? Escort3500 said:
Pillory Street, Nantwich with a varied collection of Brit metal. And a stranded Hillman Minx adding to the congestion
What car is in front of the Super Minx Estate? The resolution on my screen isn't very clear but it looks as if it might be a Series 1 XJ6? The wing line and boot aperture look about right but I'm not so sure about the side. However, at first glance I'd have said that the photo was too oldfir an XJ, it just looks a bit 'old'.Perhaps it's an Alpine-based special

Photo by Stephen Burdett - Holman's Siding at Cambourne in Cornwall, 1976.... the 'Aqua' coloured Mini 1275GT on the left would possibly fetch £20k - £25k now if it were in tip top condition.... I think the pale blue vehicle at the far end of the row is a Hillman Imp Husky....
For the loco fans the 'Western' is one of five fitted with the small square air vent on the front, D1012, D1028, D1039, D1056 and D1071, given that D1012 was withdrawn in 1975 and D1039 was withdrawn in 1973 and D1028 didn't have the two headboard mounting brackets on the front it has to be D1056 or D1071!
PH : geekdom matters
