Not aware of any action Mike, but I believe that owners who shouted loudly enough were treated to a respray from the main dealer. AIRC there was a new generation of metallics Blue Mink, Silver Fox, Saluki Bronze and Aquatic Jade. Only the first 2 seemed to be affected and the colour went flat after a matter of months and then appeared to 'wash off' leaving a red primer exposed.
MK2 Cortinas, MK1 Capri, early Escorts and as you say, the Corsair all suffered with it.
Today there would be a public scandal but owners seemed to take it in their stride and it was common knowledge 'in the trade' that the affected cars were worth substantially less than the other colours!
I bought a 3 year old Mk1 Escort back in 1974,Silver Fox colour. It was gleaming when I got it but after about 6 months the paint started flaking,it was coming off in stamp size pieces. It was grey primer not red underneath and apparently it was a fault with the primer ,not the top coat paint.MK2 Cortinas, MK1 Capri, early Escorts and as you say, the Corsair all suffered with it.

This Granada looks a bit sorry for itself. Quite rare nowadays, and oddly just down the road there is one of these in daily use.

Dad had a Scorpio 2.9 4x4 in exactly the same colour/wheel combo. D383EBJ if I remember correctly. Now long gone I believe.![](http://thumbsnap.com/sc/4Eh5wKgY.jpg)
I do occasionally keep an eye out on ebay and carandclassic for a nice condition one as close as possible to his spec. As I would buy it in a second.

Last of the line of big Ford's (inc the Scorpio) before they ceded the market to BM, Merc & Audi...? Might be a classic in some peoples eyes, I guess...
But I'll bet a current Mondeo is as big as the Scorpio.1985-1994 Ford Granada/Scorpio Dimensions:
Wheelbase: 2761mm
Length: 4669mm
Width: 1765mm
Height: 1397mm
Weight: 1306kgs
2007–2014 Ford Mondeo (Fourth generation) Dimensions:
Wheelbase: 2850mm
Length: 4844mm (saloon); 4778mm (hatchback); 4830mm (estate)
Width: 1886mm (ex. mirrors); 2078mm (inc. mirrors)
Height: 1500mm (saloon, hatchback); 1512mm (estate)
Curb weight: 1435kg to 1611kg
Mondeo is bigger in every single dimension, including weight. No wonder mine doesn't fit into a garage that was built in the early 1970s.

@MarkwG: Ford didn't cede the market to BMW/Merc/Audi - at the time that they dropped the Granada/Scorpio from the range and decided not to directly replace it, they owned Jaguar and Volvo, and it was decided to run with larger models from those two Marques, rather than to develop an all new 'Ford' large saloon/hatch competitor. Sales of the Scorpio were weak anyway, so as a brand they were only really 'losing' a millstone. A Granada replacement was unlikely to sell well in a market becoming dominated by MPVs as transport for larger families, and 'executives' were no longer happy with a Ford, as the brand was seen as too 'blue collar'. The second generation Scorpio soldiered on until 1998, which, coincidentally, was the year that the Volvo S80 launched.

So the Mondeo is about 5" longer and 4" wider (in old money) !!!
And that why we can't fit in parking slots these days, cars have got bigger but developers try to cram more parking spaces onto less ground

I can remember my dad having a 2.8 Ghia for a couple of days whilst his Sierra was being repaired. At the time the Granada was a pretty nice car.I do occasionally keep an eye out on ebay and carandclassic for a nice condition one as close as possible to his spec. As I would buy it in a second.

Is it a classic? - Or is it just old? ![scratchchin](/inc/images/scratchchin.gif)
Depends on your definition of classic I suppose. For me it has gone past the stage of being an 'old banger' i.e. you would not buy one for £500 as cheap motoring (well I wouldn't) like you might consider a £500 Mondeo. ![scratchchin](/inc/images/scratchchin.gif)
They're coming up to 30 years old now
