for the money they were very good, handled well too, I had three of them new in the mid-80s when the Sun reading sheep were at the height of their jokes - despite this I'd often get someone check no one was looking and then whisper to me they'd had one and they were quite good
they had to be rubbished otherwise people might ask how they could be sold so cheap and give a 2 year warranty when most (all?) other major manufacturers could only offer 12 month on their superior machines
if you want rubbish try a BL Metro
for the same price as a 3 year old BL Metro I got a 2 month old (so 22 months left on the warranty) importer's ex-curtsey car with 6k-miles on the clock so nicely run in
it also meant I need to borrow less on the loan, so less interest to pay too, interest rates haven't always been so low as some may soon discover

Can any contemporary car claim to have such a successful competition history?wiki-made-it-up-ia said:
"...Škodas frequently won their classes on world events, and were notably successful on the RAC Rally in Great Britain, in which they took the under-1300cc trophy for seventeen years running."
the joke reply would be they were the only car in the class!
I do remember a program about Skodas factory rally set up - I can't remember if it was TG before the stack-of-st had loads of money and his two sycophants - anyway the road out of the factory were mud so great for testing the car, the program showed another major rally team with a shelf (or two, I can't remember) full of suspension parts and said there was £200,000 worth there, meanwhile back at the Skoda factory ... now probably the whole factory wasn't worth £200,000 ... and if IIRC no Skoda parts just the car out testing on the mud roads

Skoda also ran a European Touring Car championship programme in the late seventies; the cars were quick, I seem to recall, but I can't remember if they were class winners against the AlfaSuds from a South American team - which included a survivor from the Andean plane crash. The biggest danger was being invited to have 'a few beers' with the team. That Czech brew was wicked.
I did my first rally in the mid 1980's in a Skoda 120 which was a well balanced car with very good traction, although a bit lacking in power (54bhp !!).
It might be interesting to note that the works spec 130RS cars from the 1980's are now changing hands for @£60k which would suggest that they were not as crap as some people liked to think.

In the late '70s and early 80s John Haugland was fantastic in a 130RS, especially on the RAC Rally. I seem to remember he was in the top 2 or 3 on one stage when it snow badly, though it may have been the Mintex/National Breakdown Rally.
Rear engine/rear wheel drive never seemed to harm Porsche or Alpine rally cars...
Oliver.

Hi,
I'm new to this and would like your comments on the car that I now own. 1988 Granada Scorpio 4x4, full manufacturers RS body skirting and RS suspension, 18,000 genuine miles from new, black body with full tan leather interior. I have all of the MOTs as it was owned by my Dad from 6 months old. Has been garaged for years, hence low mileage. Anyone know how I find out how many of these were made and any idea of the value?
Certainly is not an old banger!

Have you read the thread title ?
Anyway the car would most likely not to have been made by Ford with the modifications added by selling dealer.
You would probably do better on a Granada Scorpio dedicated website, assuming there is one.
Avoid Passionford .
Welcome to PH anyway.

99% sure they were a factory item, running driveshafts through the sump etc is way beyond the scope of any Ford dealer!Have you read the thread title ?
