Maybe not, but surely one of "Yesterday's Heroes"?
The years irrelevant, the QP was admired in their day, & are still admired now. If people can wax lyrical about a Marina, then a Maserati certainly fits.

A 2005 Maserati Quattroporte that has sat in our road for two months without moving. It’s got no MoT or tax on it … and has previous advisories for subframe corrosion hence its inclusion here. The owner lives a few doors down and it used to be on his drive.

2005 - A classic? confused
I wonder if it needs a new clutch, it can be an expensive job on these 2003 - 2007 due-select QPVs so it may have been left until the owner can afford to get it done.
Subframe corrosion is most likely just surface rust, hence the advisory on the MOT. Would be sorted with a wire brush and some stone chip. It must be mechanically borked.

So now, to qualify as a classic, the age is immaterial, so long as it was "admired in their day"? confused

So a 2009~2015 Ferrari 458 Italia is a classic?

A 2012~2017 Ford Fiesta ST MK2 is a classic?

A 2007 ~ 2013 BMW E92 M3 is a classic?

They were all admired "in their day", but I don't think many people would describe them as being classic's just yet (they will be one day, but not yet)

It can't be a case of: "But they're all current cars still!" because, for a starting price of £89,950, you can still buy the Quattroporte: https://www.maserati.com/gb/en/models/quattroporte

As it stands, the Quattroporte is a very pretty future classic - But the thread is titled: "Classics left to die/rotting pics" not: "Future Classics left to die/rotting pics"

wink

The primary qualifying factor in a car becoming a 'classic' is when some chancer wants to sell an old banger at an inflated price..

They can be, if that's what people want, I don't really care one way or the other. The word "classic" may be defined as judged over a period of time to be of the highest quality and outstanding of its kind. A QP meets that criteria.

If people are sufficiently engaged to consider that it has merit, then frankly, so what? An arbitrary date is exactly that, & semantic arguments about whether the title should be "Classics" or "Future classics" are so inordinately tedious I can barely be bothered to type a response. The chap took a photo & posted it because he thought there might be some people interested to see it. He was right, that's really all the criteria anyone should need.

Exactly. Apparently my TVR Chimaera is a classic now. Agreed value insurance, etc. I suppose because it's 23 years old it must be, but I still view it as fairly current. But then, 2004 was only last year wasn't it?

There are loads of threads talking about the old "what is a classic" loads of twaddle. Please post in those if you are bothered, it's a question that will never be answered to everyone's satisfaction.

Here is something I have just managed to buy, been sat in a garage since 1959.

For those that don't know, it's quite a special car underneath the homemade body.

Try telling that to the local retro car club!

Our local one is massive (won club of the year etc) and it's full of 'younger ' people getting moist over Marinas, Allegros, Maestro etc.

For those of us who were around when they were new, we remember them how they were!

Don't disagree at all, but at risk of upsetting many people, have a look at this thread wink - Pistonheads - "Morris Marina - was it really that bad?"

Underneath it's a matching numbers 1931 Austin 7 "Ulster".

Around a 180 or so were thought to have been made originally, very few are left with all of the bits.

It had been left in a lockup garage since 1959, so I think pretty good for this thread.

Nice project. I love the air intake on the bonnet.

Answer is yes they were, I’m on another group and they were discussing how many went out the factory with a left hand drive wiper set up, ie they sweep more of the passenger side. Link below……. Awful car and I’m sticking with my earlier comments

That's a nice vintage car you have there.
