Good old BL badgemongery at its best, or 'how to eek out a few more sales from a design that's already a decade old'!Heard a tale of one these being MOT'd in the late '70s, as soon as the mechanic had started lifting it on the ramp it broke its back...
It is rather lovely though.
Thanks - that takes me back!
My Maths teacher had a white 1275GT, then a MKI Escort 1300 in metallic green (which didn't last long - maybe he prescribed a tangent wrongly)!
His next car was a Daytona Yellow MKI Capri 1600GT.
But there is something about a 1275GT I really like (but I really don't know why).

The GT came out in '69, first 1100 end of '62 I think. These needed welding at five years old so eight-nine years old they could be in a very bad way. Great engine donors for Minis. The GT and the later Riley 1300 and MG1300 mark 11 with the 11 stud head and close ratio 'box, all with the same 3.65 final drive as the 850 Mini means as fast little car for the day. Lesser 1300's were the 55 bhp single carb and 70 bhp twin carb ones, Wolseley 1300 etc.Heard a tale of one these being MOT'd in the late '70s, as soon as the mechanic had started lifting it on the ramp it broke its back...

Bought a white H plate 1300GT in 1984 for £60, very clean on top with a mint interior. Thought about saving it, jacked it up and............
........the engine went in a Mini.
My dad was there working, possibly explaining the SD1 interior to reps and buyers, and my mum went along too, as there was a massive booze up and dance for the car firm staff at the Grosvenor House afterwards. My uncle came over in his Marina to collect my brothers and I and take us to his place, and he and his glam wife my auntie spoiled us rotten (he was a childless Jaguar toolmaker, so quite minted).

I was there with my Dad and Uncle, the thing I remember the most was the white Esprit on the Lotus stand, I couldn't take my eyes off it...
I've always loved these. It's only fairly recently that I've had the cash/space/family circs to consider one, but they seem to have got very expensive very quickly. Great to see them appreciating, but not great to see them appreciating beyond my modest means.
This would look perfect amongst the fleet, wouldn't it? Wouldn't it?

I had a TR7V8 DHC for a while, until my wife revealed that she didn't care for wind-in-the-hair motoring I managed to find an early FHC in Russet Brown with no sunroof that was in very good condition, and I swapped all the V8 bits, including the PAS rack into it. I really liked that car.

Terrific collection! (shame it is a 70s BL quality photo though). ETA Not my nostalgia - my tastes run more towards 50s/60s Italiana, 70s Germans, and 80's Japanese. The axis of evil, if you will.

heres some photos of one of my ADO16's
a mate of mine bought it, decided it was too much work, so gifted it to me
its been stood for years, the engine is jammed solid (its an auto)
did the inner sills in it and thousand other little bits of welding
painted the underneath
shipped the shell and panels to a bodyshop
soon to be resplendent again
they are ace cars for just drifting around on todays busy roads, comfy, good heaters, all the important things!
