Yes I think so, 6.0l V12 conversion that was done some years ago apparently, the car looked a bit scruffy
I've seen it at several events. This photo was taken at the Le Mans Classic. It was built quite some years ago.

I like the car, but the video is appalling.

Has he had it long? Looks very much the same as one that Jaguar bought as part of the James Hull collection and was sold on at auction. That one was low a mileage manual/overdrive and sold for £10,268.

Have you only got the white one now?
No, got the Turquoise DD6 which won't be going anywhere, and the battered Sable brown car is a big project, and got a few unconventional ideas for it.. wink It was nice to commemorate owning four of them, but I do wish that I had had proper photos done. The green car is currently being restomodded at great expense, and the white one is one that I won't be keeping (though it is lovely, but too many cars!)
I’ve noticed the white car’s lovely blue seats have holes for the headrests but no headrests! Were these an option back then as the green car (Fern Grey?) has them … or have they been ‘lost’ over the years?

No idea if they were a standard fitment back then or not. And if not, I’m surprised there weren’t any blue blanking plus fitted, or maybe there were!
Optional I believe as others have mentioned. The problem is often that they didn't last all that well and sag and collapse like a black sack, so even where they were fitted they may be missing. Not sure why people didn't have them restuffed.

So what is the restomodding being done to the green one? That sounds great!
I don't know all the details, but I did sell them an S3 project car (which I would have loved to have saved), which they used for the air con (although it was going to be much more rear seat focussed), and they used the front subframe assembly to get the more modern set up and brakes etc. There was talk of updated suspension, fuel injection, a possible 6 speed conversion and other things too. Knowing the people doing it, it will be a lovely thing once done, however it ends up.

I didn't know the owner of the C-type had a Silk Cut car, but the C-type Is lodged here at my house for a few days before each Le Mans Classic. The car on the left is also his and is XKD 505

I'm probably getting my chassis numbers muddled but wasn't XKD505 "exposed" as a fake a few years ago? I seem to remember a D-Type being withdrawn from an auction (with a very expensive estimate) and then reappearing as an authentic copy. Or maybe that was XKD506?

I'm almost glad I can only afford a replica because the history behind some of these cars means you're not really sure what you would be buying. And in another 70 years time would anybody care?

It is not the original car but was built up using parts from the original and after being bought at Rockingham auction in 2001 has regular use at Silverstone, Goodwood and Le Mans. XKD 506 is in the same boat and one I spent ten years decrying, and succeeded, was XKD 606. But 505, despite no continuous history was driven at Le Mans by Mike Hawthorn and since 2001 has more racing history than most of the D-types added together. Here's one at le Mans 2009

The later 2.4 with an SU and straight port head would be fine, but with this engine pretty sluggish and can't hit the ton.I can only see the photos but no price though.

What do my fellow XJ fans think …?

For me, that double sunroof doesn’t sit easily - nor the V12 grill - and those wheels. I’m at an age where I prefer the standard offering … interior and engine bay look as sweet as, though.

I don't think it's correct to say that the Mk1 was never fashionable. It was well received by both press and public, desirable and sold well.

Even in 2.4 form it had few direct competitors. When the 3.4 came along it virtually created it's own category for a compact sports saloon.

Of course the Mk2 has since overshadowed it and there are far more of them around.

Re the green XJ.

Normally, that wouldn't appeal but, sunroofs (or sunrooves, as I was taught) aside, I quite like it, particularly the interior. Normally the wheels would be a big no-no, however, back in the day, one of the neighbours had a V12 E-type, perhaps 1-2 years old, fitted with similar wheels and wheel arch mods. and as an impressionable youngster, it looked (and sounded) great. Very period. Therefore, whilst the sunroof makes it a 'no', I go against my usual thoughts and say yes to the rest.
