You're right, that is a 190. There was a non Cosworth 2.3 engine option on the 190, but it was badged 190E 2.3 (never sold in the UK but available in most other markets)

My father-in-law had one of these, a top-spec 1994 VSX TD with full leather. Quite a thing it was, and survived for many years as it was a company car that he had to buy to save the company from folding, meaning it was still on the books at 10 years old and about 200,000 miles. Seems it disappeared from DVLA's radar at that point.

We did many a tour through France in this thing, and the only reason he got rid in the end was because on the last trip a snake crawled into the engine compartment and we were never entirely sure it ever left. Mother-in-law wasn't keen to keep it after that...

Legendry psa XUD motor in those Xantia's above insane reliabilty if maintained and decent if not threw 260k at one original Turbo the lot never needed as much as valve clearences adjusting although need to be checked at around 100k , no crap EGR valves , suction valves , electronic inj's to fail or DPF to worry about , and 50MPG if driven sensibly , Citroen hydropneumatic suspension is often misunderstood and misdiagnosed but superb ride quality

To be fair all the XU's were decent not just the Diesel. The XU9 J2 in my parents BX 19 GTi ran to 262k before he got rid (and it was still running, albeit the rest of the car was very tired by then).

I think definitely a classic, saw an immaculate one on Saturday and meant to take a photo for the spotted thread. So elegant – looks like the designer's concept sneaked through to production without the engineers getting their oily hands on it.

On reflection, I think I've worked out who owns it. Next door to the garage is a large furniture outlet, and I used to do leather work for them (EG damaged in transit furniture, referrals to their customers) The owner is a car nut, and I bet the building behind the car is storage relating to the store. He has many flash cars, Mitsubishi 3000GT's, Jags, Ranges, so I bet he's recently acquired it. He may even be on here, AB, you there?!
