But we like being pedantic

S47 - no plenty more pics please! I love the Quattro - on my lottery win garage list (as is the Sport Quattro if it's roll over week). Also, you think that was pedantry? Ha! For the benefit of Daps, the MB-series Quattro had Audi / OOOO / quattro
Yertis - yes the MB cars had Audi/0000/quattro. I didn't know it changed with the facelift.
The early WR cars had no rings and stickers rather than a badge.

So what was the car I posted up then????
Was it just a bodykit fitted audi coupe with BLACK Quattro badges and rings etc etc etc.

Well I'm sure you wouldn't, but since I'm on "holiday"... I believe it's a facelift WR Quattro, upon which someone has put some black rings, maybe a complete set of MB badges painted black – the profile of the badges is quite different. As it happens I've got some brand new WR badges here, bought for a WR I don't have any more. MB insignia was all chrome but quite a few WR owners put them on (including one of our own resident WR owners naming no names, and whoever it was who had my first WR before me). All the best quattros also have 'quattro' in the rear glass, as part of the heating element. So what was the car I posted up then????

As I said... The most enduring material legacy of the original Quattro is the 'quattro' script.

Yes, that's one of the flashest bits of my coupe quattro - the bit in the heating element. And it's lovely how it's a double-element, so that bit clears first on a frosty morning.Non-original bits aside, the red quattro does look good, there's just something about it.

That’s a friend of mine driving the XK150, he doesn’t own it but has been lent it by the owner for a couple of weeks, and took me for a blast in it to Wales a couple of weeks ago. It is a very nice car and has been local all of it’s life (Stoke-on-Trent)VT is a Stoke registration, I think?

I really liked the look of this.
As a serial Ford owner in that era I have to say that Vauxhall consistently made better looking cars than Ford for a very long time yet never quite managed to get the same qudos.Looking back, it all seems a bit Emperor’s New Clothes on behalf of Ford fans.

Period slot mags,Wolfrace ? on the Vauxhall.
Indeed. Wolfies. And the cut faces of the slots painted red; a familiar post purchase enhancement. 10" Wolfies were the only mod on my Mini 1000* that actually contrived to make the car slower than standard with the increased roll resistance of the wider tyres. Looked good though.
To my eye.
*Bought new in 1978. Black with a fitted radio and sunroof. £2,500 ish IIRC. That's about £40,000 in today's money or something equally ridiculous.

Yes VT was a stoke registration as well as EH,he was indicating left.
Do you think the supplying dealer was Byatts?as they sold a lot of British made vehicles
I am going for extreme pedantry here - VT is indeed a Stoke-on-Trent registration. EH however is a Stafford registration. The reason I think this is so is that our daily snotter is a 2001 Subaru brought new from Stafford by my Dad - TEH. My Mum’s Micra from back in the 1980’s was also a Stafford car and also a an EH. Pretty sure on this. Conversely my first car was a Citroen AX brought from Ray and Proctors in Longton - E546 KVT. Pedantry over. On things Citroen my love of the marque endured and I added a Citroen SM to my collection last weekend after taking the biggest brave pill I could find. When I get brave enough to take it out in our fair county of Staffordshire I sincerely hope I get photographed and put on this thread!

According to the all-knowing wiki, both EH and VT were Stoke on Trent - I guess the LA might have decided to use one for S-o-T and the other for the rest of Staffs.Gassing Station | Classic Cars and Yesterday's Heroes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
