Observations on the 1970 footage compared to today

1) Buildings very dirty
2) Very few supercars
3) A higher percentage of cabs and buses
4) More parking spaces
5) Less traffic
6) Less cyclists

Anyone remember this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlM-G7ZOHOc

It left a big impression on me as a 12/13 year old, the car,the girl and the life style I wanted when I got older, I hadn't seen the ad since it came out in 1979/81 until this week, I tried my best to get the reg to see if it's still about, I think it's CWS 295T something like that, pic qual V poor

Spotted an old Aston ( DB5 i think) at 18:46
Great stuff.

There's a distinct lack of any litter in the whole film, when did it all change so much? frown

Nice to remember a time when there was a queue for the bus.

I've not used one for 40 years (since the 70's) so what happens now, is it a scrum?

It is indeed if it's busy.
Tend to use a bus to get to Stratford some mornings if there's no real rush. It's OK where we are but tends to get quite shouty/pushy round Maryland. hehe

The notion of queing and letting people who have been waiting longer than you on first is lost on so many it seems. frown

Being a quaint old preserve of the British, its sadly no surprise its all but disappeared at bus stops within the M25.

Its the same trying to get on tube/overground trains as well.

Great clip that, there are several others on youtube from the mid '60s to the early '70s, absolute heaven for car spotting. Can't find the link but I remember one where there are two Radford Mini Coopers in shot, both black with blacked out windows etc.

Another dose of nostalgia from 1969...

The guys occupation must of been an air dresser biggrin maybe he was still in the closet scratchchin
Ferry looks familiar...fond memories of the smorgasbord on TT after a school trip circa 1977. All changed after 1987.

If you have a spare afternoon to lose on YouTube search for Look at Life films by the Rank Organisation. Loads of 1960's street scenes and plenty of smoking in inappropriate places. How did we survive?

Amazingly, the Percy Daltons building in Crispin Street, Spitalfields, still exists, as does the sign at the the top, although the ground floor is now a restaurant. Donavan Bros is also preserved.

Bloody hell - that's a blast from the past! I remember that ad! I also remember that cross channel ferries at the time were less good looking young couples in sports cars and more harassed families in Volvo estates
