The americans had a version of a Mk1 fiesta???

A run down area of america in the mid 80s. Yet in the same frame a yank car with the TV boomerang aerial, and a new looking 911 carrera 3.2.

Something's going down, man....
That Chevy Caprice with the boomerang arial also appears to have very tinted rear side windows and a rear window blind.

Yeah and that Caprice is pre 1980 so an old car in '86 ... crap cars anyhoo ... I had one as a firm's car in Saudi
ETA coincidently, I also had a Corolla like that one at the same time as a site runaround (large construction site)

The yank version of the Fiesta was the source of the XR2's round headlights.
As well as the strengthened chassis rails of the XR2 versions

There was a time a few decades earlier, when they certainly combined form with function.

Found images from the '70s....

Love this shot, very evocative, you can almost hear the crickets chirping. Where was that?

'Somewhere in Italy' is the best I can do I'm afraid, it popped up in a random image search the other day and was originally posted in a Marcos facebook group with no attached info. Here are a few more I've found / nicked...

'Miss Burlington 1968' posing in a 1600GT...

Half of a Marcos in spot of bother...

An early Marcos takes shape down in Wiltshire... Rootes / Singer poking out of the workshop on the left and an Austin Special on the right maybe...?

Another from the '70s by the looks of it...

Might be Donnington in the ''70s or '80s...

This corker of Alan Wicker with his Continental FS turned up in a search for pics of Piper GTs, you can just see one on the left...

Spotted an old Aston ( DB5 i think) at 18:46
That was very interesting indeed.

I'm surprised at the number of Ford Corsairs, there seemed to be one in every second shot. I don't remember them being so popular at the time. My dad had a nice dark green one but it seemed to be in a minority relative to Cortinas, Anglias etc.

Also interesting to see the range in the ages of cars. There were a few pretty old ones out and about. That's something "period" films don't really take into account.

quality
the big BOAC advert, the Transits driving with the sliding door open, the big flatbed coal truck, what looked like a Scammel Scarab at one point, in BR colours, the little DER van, in fact all the little Anglia and Hillman vans, and yes, I think it was an Alpine opposite the royal courts/outside the Temple at the end with a Renault 8 in front. those law types with their odd cars smile

I've often wondered if anyone ever won these cars which were often advertised in competitions around the late 60's early 70's.
This advert appeared 50 years ago this weekend in the Melody Maker:

A bit misleading that one - the car shown in the ad is actually a Mk2 1275 Cooper S, not a deluxe 1000! I know a large number of the 1966 'Heinz 57' Wolseley Hornets have survived and the 1971 Mk3 Cooper S given away by Autosport in the '90s still exists, although it needs restoring. I remember the article about the competition with a photo of John Cooper standing next to the car at his (then) garage in Ferring, West Sussex.

These are rather nice... anyone recognise the locations...?

Edit - bottom pic looks like Warwick, the road that goes down the side of the castle.
