Yeah, but he's already cocked up the steering wheel and the exhaust, so why not go for a resto mod look? wink

Just found this shot of my second P6 which I owned in 2007 / 08, bought from a guy in High Wycombe who was a serial P5 / P6 buyer, I never did get round to fitting some proper period plates to replace the cheap pressed alloy ones....

It still had the original plates on before I bought it....

I remember walking past one of those as a kid and wondering why it sounded better than the other cars in the queue.
Later I was to discover that it was because of something called a V8.

My dad bought a new Rover 2000TC P6 when they first came out. Absolutely beautiful car compared with previous 101 Victors etc!

It’s a V12
Just back from paint. Already converted to manual, uprated suspenders and PAS valved. Plus loads more.

And loads more to go. Wheels are not staying. Only on for sizing.

Oh and a saucy exhaust. Sounds epic.

I do like that although a bit more tyrewall would be my preference. What gearbox has he/she used for the conversion?

When you see one in traffic today they look slightly dwarfed by modern stuff, but in the '70s they were the business with plenty of road presence. When I picked this one up from High Wycombe it wafted me back up the M40 with aplomb and sounded wonderful, the only down side being the boot mounted spare which blocked most of the rear view mirror! I only sold it because I had to make a choice between keeping it or the P5B Coupe I bought around the same time. It was my everyday car for a year or so and only let me down when one of the fuel lines became blocked in town. Ownership of it overlapped for a while with my first P6, a '73 2000TC....

My dad was a serial car buyer.

Knew nothing about mechanics. Always told my mum that the back axle was going so had to change the car...... again!

Ming you, I am ahead of him!

Yes agreed it’s a bit Wagon Wheeled. That’s why he’s changing to 17” 10x17 up back with 275.

Gearbox. I can’t recall. It’s the one used in the 3.6. Getrac iirc

Great photos there. thumbup

I bought a 1973 Mexico Brown P6B 3500S in 1979 and my cousin had a 1972 Cameron Green 3500 Auto as his dad had got a new MK4 Cortina company car!

I loved my P6B, well apart from the rust.

Agree with you/him about the wheels.

Gearbox wise some early V12s were offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox, but I'm not sure who made it.

A mate of a mate used to race a manual V12 - until he blew the engine up.

Circa 76 you could order your XJS with a manual but it was only a 4sp a la Etype V12.

Indeed the early XJS box was 4 sp. Sure there are other alternatives for a 5sp conversion too. Harry Metcalfe's XJ12C has a 5sp box sourced from non-jag lineage. Not sure what from though.
