Some of these Belaz dump trucks were imported into the UK in the 70's . I was luck or unlucky enough to drive one back in the day (site use only) air cooled V8 diesel was certainly a strong unit, working out how to use the tipper almost needed a maths degree with about 5 or 6 leavers between the seats that went in a certain sequence, and I was told in no uncertain terms don't push the rams all the way to the top or you will blow the hydraulic seals........oh and there was no power steering.

For those of you, who have an interest in Eastern bloc images, this website has a fair amount of content spanning over a century. All the content is in Russian, so you need get busy with Google translate.

For me the image via the site came up as Fischerinsel in (East) Berlin - that office/resi tower block appears to still be standing & has been joined by several others. The older buildings all appear to have been demolished (unsurprisingly). The street lamp in the foreground's also still there (or at least one in the same style).
Last year my dad took his Fiat 125s all the way over to the Black Sea (Bulgarian side).
Around 5000 miles later, having gone through France, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Serbia, Romania and Bulgaria he made it back home. He met some Eastern European friends along the way and the car performed faultlessly!
