Nearly New Mk I Cortina
Discussion
Yes, surprising what's still around but I don't really understand the point of not registering a car and then not using it for nigh-on 60-years; I doubt that the original owner thought "it'll be worth a fortune in 60-years time if somebody invents a classic car market".
It does, however, show how basic some cars were back then and would be an interesting reference point for restorers. No underseal?

Pre air flow model no one wanted, pushed into corner.....and forgotten

There's a lovely early Mk 1 coming up next month at Brightwells. Guide price seems a bit steep to me though. It's not a GT or a Lotus variant, just a 1200 Deluxe:

Surprisingly ropey-looking, for something which has never been on the road and apparently lived indoors?

Wow, it's not far of 60 years old with 20 miles on the clock. What a great reference for anyone restoring MK1's.
You'd like to think the Ford Heritage collection would be all over this....for this reason.......but, as mentioned, likely this will end up being used as a shell donor for a Lotus Cortina restoration most likely.TarquinMX5 said:

Yep. That's how all cars left the factory back then, even all through the 1970's.Adding any underseal, Ziebert etc., was all down to the choice of the first owner once they drove it off the forecourt. Many didn't bother and its why cars from that era were shagged out and rusted through before they were 10 years old.

Shame about the paint job, suppose makes it a prime candidate to become the 6,001st 'Lotus Cortina'..https://www.brightwellslive.com/lot/details/548347

Do Mathewsons do any sort of Zoom facility for viewers, not bidders, at their closed auctions?

No , pre Airflow refers to the body at the front , not the engines fitted .Seems some posters aren't au fait with 60's metal quality & rust prevention
(Or lack of) On a quiet day you could hear the metal moth at work. I'm surprised it's not displayed as a mass of ferrous oxide in a bin. While searching for eg's of pre & airflow this cropped up ! Might it be the same car 6 years ago ?
