Ford Fiesta XR2I Restoration
Discussion
A few years ago my parents bought me his for my 32nd birthday. Over a few years I’ve restored the car and thought I should really show it on here. Especially as it looks like I’m about to embark upon a Capri mk3 restoration!
So the car is a 1990 1.6XR2i 8 valve with 74k on the clock. It is in fantastic condition, unmarked interior, great wheels and excellent bodywork. It has a tiny bit of superficial surface rust on the drivers door and near the fuel cap, but I will be getting this sorted as a priority.
The engine bay just needs a clean....can't wait to get the steam cleaner out:
Keep checking back for more updates

Front in we arches showed signs of surface corrosion so this was all dealt with:
Arches stone chipped with white and then painted in the correct shade of Ford white:
Decided at this point to replace the following:
Brakes all round
Handbrake cable
Shocks and springs
Oil sump
Clutch
CV joints
Wheel bearings
All filters etc
Rear shocks and waxoiled rear arches:

Very pleased with the end result:
New wheel arch covers sourced:
Boot lid release didn’t work when I got the car. Removed and cleaned contact plate, sorted:
Bonnet area cleaned and hinges painted:
Slam panel / cross member tidied up prior to installation of new headlights:

Cosmetic body work time. Fortunately there was no rust as the arches had been replaced previously. There were tiny bubbles in the paint from moisture in the air when it was last painted in 2008. The drivers door was removed to reseal the weld between the outer and inner panel to prevent any further water. I had a NOS door but didn’t need to use it as the repair was fairly easy.
