The scene where Bambi's mother is shot - horrific, chilling and so realistic.

Good choice of film though
although the closing scene was indeed good.

I'd say Usual suspects although thats more film overall than individual scene

The twist at the end of Fight Club.
I usually have an inkling when there's a twist coming, but I have never been more WTF'ed by a film than that.

For some reason I always work out the twist, especially if I know there is a twist in the tale. I sussed out Fight Club, The Usual Suspects, The Sixth Sense, etc.. well ahead of the end. I've yet to have a movie ending take my breath away.

American History X. Either the stamp scene, or the rape scene, or the arguments... to be honest, the manevolence of the entire film shocked me more than anything else I have ever seen. Redefined what "violence in movies" is all about for me.

The Untouchables, where Capone hits the bloke in the back of the head with the baseball bat,the sound of it and the shot of the blood soaking accross the tablecloth always makes me squirm!

The Matrix?

Its become so cliched, and far too popular to ever be remembered as cool- but that film was one giant "whoah!" from start to finish when I first watched it. Giant plot holes or not.

What about Alien? Or are you too young to have seen it before everyone knew what it was about?

Have you seen Memento? I imagine if you know there's going to be a twist you're bound to be looking for it rather than being surprised at the end.

The final scene from Blackadder Goes Forth.

It's pure comedy all the way, then turns serious about going over the top and then Poppies......

Gives me goosebumps, just thinking about it.

Whilst I agree with many of the films mentioned already, the most shocking moment in a film I've seen recently was when Leonardo DiCaprio walks out of the lift with Matt Damon as his prisoner towards teh end of 'The Departed'. That was a truly unexpected WTF moment.

Didn't mention the specifics in case anyone hasn't yet seen it.

Now I wish I'd seen it when it was on Sky Movies the other week frown

What about Begbie glassing the poor bloke in the pub in Trainspotting.

Too close to real for me!

I saw the original Hong Kong original Infernal Affairs before The Departed - equally as good and watchable a film, and nearly identical for all the key scenes. Recommended if you haven't seen it.
