And quite frankly comparing 2007 with the crusades 1000 years ago is not really very accurate.
I was raising the point that extremism is not confined to one religion. There are fruitcakes in all imaginary friend competitions.
Indeed. The moslems seem to be carrying the olympic torch for this one quite regularly though. After all, its not like non moslem fruitcakes riot and murder over cartoons or teddys or whatever else takes their fancy.

When religion ruled the world they called it "The Dark Ages"... for some reason I thought we had managed to become civilised since then... silly me.

Stone her, burn her, hang her, beat her, lash her, defile her then drag her ragged body through the streets because their kids named a teddy bear.
Dont whack little Mohammed, no go pick on an innocent foreigner, thatll show em.
Yes it will, itll show em what a backward pack of psychotic spinelss shitheads you really are.

If ever a thesis for the "psyhopathic tendencies of man" needed study material, then look no further than your fundamentalist fruitcakes.

As far as I am aware there are many people called jesus (he-zeuse) and mohammed. Why is it a big deal to use a name on object? The name is clearly acceptable by acknowledgment of the fact it they are used widely? So where is the issue with using a name? the mind boggles.

The naming of the bear was neither designed to be inflammatory or malicious. The use of the name where it has been interpreted as unacceptable was an honest mistake. I think its akin to accidentally saying something wrong i.e. swearing in a formal situation. You say sorry and everyone moves on.

If however she some sort of religious hate monger like Abu hamzer I would completely understand the desire for a stiffer sentence, not death though. I honestly cannot belive a tiny gaff has turned into an international incident. I feel really strongly that the sentence was unjust and their legal system has really let them down. IMO she should have been allowed to make a public apology and that should have been the end of the story. No doubt she feels silly for accidentally upsetting people in a foreign country with different customs, as any good brit would, and is wishing it would all hurry up and blow over.

I hear that the British Government are applying "diplomatic pressure" to get her released.

150 years ago we'd have just invaded their country to get one of our people back. Or, rather, nobody would have dared detain a British Subject in the first place.

This Islamic extremism is like contagious mental disorder. It really beggars belief that it cause such unnatural reactions of hatred and death-wishes wherever it surfaces in the world, whether Africa, Asia, Europe etc.
Extemism is extremism in whatever religion I am afraid..

Many years ago, good old, all forgiving Christian and God Fearing Knights of the realm slaughtered 3000 unarmed prisoners in the Crusades, with the blessing of the Church.....

However, in this instance, it is like they don't want any aid. So I say fair enough, withdraw all aid from countries which allow this kind of behaviour.

Further, send in a Battalion of Paras to get her out now, and bring her home.
Well I actually accept that she offended their religion and think that 15 days in prison + deportation is actually fair enough. I mean recent laws enacted in the UK for inciting religious/racial hatred could mean you get up to 7 years of jail. The lashes were always over-emphasised by the media.

And quite frankly comparing 2007 with the crusades 1000 years ago is not really very accurate.
You are kidding arent you ?

You seriously think that SHE offended their religion when SOMEONE ELSE named a teddy bear with the most common muslim boys name ?

So presumably the kids didnt find it offensive to name the teddy Mohammed - so either ......

a) the kids parents should then be imprisoned and whipped for failing to properly bring up their kids in the ways of Islam - if it is *genuinely* offensive to name a teddy Mohammed they should have taught their kids that.

or

b) it isnt at all offensive really : the woman is simply being persecuted as an "excuse" / political stunt because she is western ( I doubt any locals would have been imprisoned over this )

I think we should perhaps merge Islam and Hinduism a bit. I like the fact that Hindu's have multiple gods, its slightly more comforting to believe the heavens and earth were created by committee.

But along with Mo, the prophet, we could have Larry, God of Hair and Curly, God of Corn Snacks.

Package it right and its sure to sell.

Stoogism - the way of the future.

I'm going to buy a Teddy Bear tomorrow, Christen it Mohammed and burn that instead.
hehe I don't know what would be more annoying. Burning it, or Christening it.
I'll buy it name it Jacob Mohammed, Christen it, stone it, burn it and then send it out on some burning logs on the Ganges whilst smashing all the plates from the ceremony on the floor.
Oooh, an equal opportunities balsphemer! I like your style.
Ach.. it has to be called Jesus Jehovah Mohammed Ali Brian Richard Brainstrop Blair to go the whole way here wink

Might as well be flogged for a lamb as well as a goat or camel or llama whatever wink
