I watched it a couple of weeks ago, on satellite tv, great movie, loved it when it first came out, still love it now.

First time round, I'd just got back from a mad holiday down at the Bol D'or 24 hours endurance race in France, loads of high speed motorway miles on my Kawa 1300, garish French race-replicas everywhere, sunshine, bier, and the day I got back I watched Top Gun at the movies.

A fitting end to a great week, and whenever I watch it now it brings back those crazy days some 20 years ago.

Some better F-14 footage here:

I have a better quality copy kicking around somewhere - the expression on the chap's face as he goes off the catapult at the start says it all....

If you lost the edge you need to turn in your wings.

I cant beleive no one has mentioned the "Son, your ego is writing checks your body can't cash" quote!

It is a great film, its a shame its a bit gay.

This is what I call a target rich environment.

Shame the one in the fim is a 750 wink
But why on earth would you want a 750cc version when the there is an identical looking 900cc version. Besides I'm considerably heavier than Tom Thumb.

Quentin T explains why it's a gay movie. --> http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=9lTRFWve0Rc

Regardless I still think it's one of the greatest films ever made for pure enjoyment purposes. I don't think anything modern can touch it.

I have to say I love this film as well; it still has some of the best flying sequences ever filmed.

One of my few regrets is that I never joined the air force. This was brought home to me back in May 2008 when I was in night club called the Blue Martini in Tampa Florida. Now this place was a target rich environment I have to say.

Anyway half way through the evening about 10 US Navy fighters pilots rolled in still wearing their flight suits, one was a very good looking lady by the way. And you have to say they had all the brashness and confidence you would expect. From that moment on the rest of the guys in the club did not stand a chance, I have never in all my years seen women gravitate to a bunch like this, it was almost comical. One guy I saw had 4 absolute stunners hanging on his every word and at the end of the evening left with 3 of them eek

I am not normally a jealous man but I have to say on that night I was

The other day I was on a Stag do in Tampa, Florida. We decided to dress up as pilots for a laugh - you know, flight suits, the lot. We spent the evening larging it, you know, Top Gun quotes and high-fives. Well, it worked a treat - the locals didn't stand a chance and I left with three lovelies.

Insurance cost maybe?

have to agree with Rhinochopig - this was a great bike in its day. Only thing I didn't like about the bike was the AVDS thingie that didn't seem to work well and just made the front end feel funny.

I had the once in a lifetime opportunity last year to use a quote in real life.

I was pedalling my little beechcraft aeroplane on a x country flight with a mate and we flew over boscombe. When I called up to get a transit I was granted it.

about 2 mins later the controller called back to warn me of "fast jet traffic" at 6 o clock.

I couldnt resit it, completely against proper radio etiquete....

" thats OK, Ill hit the brakes, they'll fly right by"

Im sure the guys in the jets must have laughed a little, and buzzed especially close as a reminder! However im proud that I managed to have sense to get the line out in what will probably be my only chance ever in that situation.

If memory serves me, I may have even high fived my mate after I said it! biggrin

...no volleyball was played in the recounting of this story.
