I'm struggling to remember the name of the film, but the one where Robin Willams is the doctor and his wife (the cute blonde from "Along came a Spider" IIRC) was killed by one of his mental patients.

You didn't even see it happen, and in what was essentially a feel-good film, utterly shocking...

...the director gives just enough time to really fall for her, pathos with Robin Williams' charcter I guess, and then, meaninglessly, she is just gone.

Absolutely ripped my heart out. Since that I am always highly suspicious of any characters in film or soap who seem too happy. Something bad is just around the corner.

Patch Adams that was it.

Won't watch it now. frown
That was the Fisher King IIRC.

I can't believe that the Chestburster scene in Alien hasn't featured. The first time you see that...it is utterly, disgustingly horrifying. They way "Lambert" screams and screams and screams just makes you believe it.

Its only when you've seen it time and again that the cheesiness of the (pre-CGI) special effects dulls its edge a little.

Then there's Hellraiser. Remember Uncle Frank? My girlfriend of the time wanted to see the movie so badly so I gave in and took her (hey - I was young and wanted head and didn't mind horror movies too much). She actually wanted to leave the cinema: no young lady I've paid for this and you *will* sit through this icky bit until we get back to the story...

yes True. It was kind of "WTF did they have to do that for?". Quite gratuitous really, especially if you'd watched the series (which I still haven't got round to doing yet, but I can imagine what it would be like for those who have).
Its a great series, Jon. Really. You simply MUST get the DVD set and watch it. And it was a WTF moment, alright.

I so, so wish someone would fund a second series. Its Whedon's finest work without a doubt. Characterisation is superb and the cast, the cast! Possibly the best TV I've seen in years...

100% with you there Don.
I had watched the series, dvd box set, several times through before seeing the film. I had real tears at that moment.

And Zoe's line just after, so stoic; "Wash ain't coming".

Well I'm halfway there - I've owned the DVD boxset for months. Best part of a year actually. I just haven't got round to watching it, along with stacks of other stuff. frown

The final scene from Blackadder Goes Forth.

It's pure comedy all the way, then turns serious about going over the top and then Poppies......

Gives me goosebumps, just thinking about it.

I'm quoting myself here - has no-one else seen Amistad?

I've seen most of the scenes people are quoting here, and none of them come close IMHO.

5 pages in, and nobody's mentioned Reservoir Dogs. The ear scene is the obvious one, but last time I tried to watch it (and it is one of my favourite films) I had to turn it off not very far in. Sustained nastiness throughout.

This clip from Happy Feet. Go to 3:30.

Shocking for two reasons..........

1. It nearly gave me a heart attack just by making me jump.

2. It`s very realistic and it`s supposed to be a kid`s film.

Apologies for the crap video. Imagine full screeen, high quality.

1997 Spielberg directed film. Often overlooked - very powerful and incredibly harrowing and inspiring at the same time.

Very highly recommended.

The first 1/2 hour of War of the Worlds (2005, Tom 'vegetables-for-brains' Cruisology).

I was in a constant state of shock about how appallingly bad this travesty of a film was, the horror only stopped when I decided to switch off and do something more interesting - like study the weave of my aircraft seat.

God, just thinking about it still makes me shiver. UUuuurrrrefffggghhghhh!!

Shame, because it got a lot better from thereon in, with some truly incredible effects.
