The problem with looking at the surrounding villages is that they become Ghost towns during the winter, and it can be a very long winter. The properties in them are ridiculously cheap, but I would suggest that unless you love your own company, Kelberg is the smallest that you should look at.
We've had winter's where the snow on the Nordschleife prevented it opening from November through to April in the past, and that is a long time to be sat in a two horse village, talking to yourself.
After staying in a rental in Uersfeld for 8 nights for the N24 this year, we looked about at property. Crazy what you get for your money.
Got a friend of the family that moved to Dorsel 20 mins from the ring and got a 2/3 bed house, with 2 cellars, big garage and huge barn for about £40,000. Certainly food for thought.
Does Adenau stay open / busy all year round?

Dorsel is another two horse town, see how they get on through the winter. Got a friend of the family that moved to Dorsel 20 mins from the ring and got a 2/3 bed house, with 2 cellars, big garage and huge barn for about £40,000. Certainly food for thought.

Adenau is open all year round and has supermarkets, shops, pubs, etc etc. There are far less tourists during the winter but it stays open and at least you can get a pint of milk without having to drive five miles in the snow.

To be fair, they do come back to Britain (and go all over Europe in their huge campervan) throughout the year. I can imagine Dorsel is dead in the winter - it's hardly lively during the summer!![wink](/inc/images/wink.gif)

If you fancy something a bit nicer, this is quite a bargain, okay, so it's about an hour from the ring but it is rather nice. ![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)

7 single room flats amongst it, they'll be lovely i'm sure![laugh](/inc/images/laugh.gif)
I bet the post box has some exotic names on it
Whoops. I just tried to find the grubbiest building for the same money. That area of Oberrad is, erm, interesting and stuck between a rail track and an autobahn.7 single room flats amongst it, they'll be lovely i'm sure
