The point is, lotus got 440 from it and are planning a european version which will likely have a similar output, so with that in mind i'm sure they can get another 40 to 50 out of the Exige S unit in the future if they decide to release a hotter version, without to much trouble or are you saying that 350hp is the most were ever going to see?which part of the engine is still standard at this point?

yes its probably possible but with today's emission "rules" its most likely its gonna cost a fair bit extra, what also depends om what more they have to change to do it all within limits of engine/gearbox/axles/safety/emissions?

I know this is a Lotus forum and people want to explore the boundries of their cars but when is enough enough. Most people on here won't be able to drive the new Exige anywhere near its limits on the track, never mind the road (they may think otherwise).Even if they add another 40 to 50hp, in a relatively light car, that will be noticable, and a 390/400 hp version of the V6 Exige will be very fast indeed

It's still the supercharged 3.5l engine, not the 4.0l they use in the race cars. By coincidence, I got a call this afternoon to say that all (80) of the early slots are now spoken for, and cars need to be specced next week to be sure of March. Anyone else heard the same?
Was also told that the Trofeo option tyres last about 1k miles, so don't think I'll be speccing those!

I don't understand why 99% of the guys that post on forum's think they need more power because you don't, I've done load's of driver training and to be honest a 140bhp Elise is all you're ever going to need if you're using it for the odd track day and general road driving. My 911 is far too quick for the road and you can very easily get yourself in a lot of danger as well as trouble if you're not careful, I'm not a driving god so I guess I'm one of the fewI also have 3 Boys and a wife that need me around.

More is certainly nice, but you're right, rare that you ever get to use it.Even with a 120bhp Elise I spend most decent straights on part throttle, simply not worth the risk of losing my license or wiping myself out.

In your hands 350bhp may be ok as you are obviously an accomplished driver. Giving the majority of people on these forums 350bhp, in a light car, would be a complete waste of time and their money. Very nice to have and own mind you. I've watched some of the driving gods on track days and to be honest some of them would be better off driving something much cheaper and slower. The cars are either too quick for them or too precious to be driven in anger. I put myself in this category as well. However I will enjoy watching some of the new V6 Exige owners indicating to let the 1.6 Elise S owners overtake them on the corners.that's like saying no car should be capable of more than 70Mph...

Want and need are entirely different. Most want, hardly anyone needs.

fair points, but i will probably move on when/if i want more power, assuming it can actually do 8 seconds to 100mph in the first place anyway. that's like saying no car should be capable of more than 70Mph...

not convinced that the parts bin engine / gearbox combo will appeal with the associated costs of adding another reliable 100bhp or so.
each to their own on that, in the meantime the existing proposition is indeed a good start, hence a deposit from me.
