Maybe not too late Bert.
Fitted a new MFRU but still not starting.
The AA guy did also run a lead to the solenoid and the starter did indeed crank.
I am still convinced its an immobiliser / alarm type issue despite it starting with a push and running well!!

Did it start when the starter was jumped by the AA man? Could provide a route to a bodgy interim solution until you get to the bottom of it. Talking of which...

I ran a caterham for a while where I had a permanent fly lead connected to the starter and cable tied near the battery. All was fine. apart from when it was very hot it wouldn't tick over and stalled. I had a nightmare journey on the M25 in a huge tailback in the rain once in the summer. Despite my best HnT, I kept losing the engine. I had the top on so every time is stalled, I had to hoik myself out, unclip the bonnet start it and try and get back in before it stalled. I was very frustrated, wet and knackered when I got home.

That was the impetus to fix the starter problem (k-click problem) and fit verniers to get the cams retimed to make it tick over. The head had been skimmed a few to many times

Waaaay OT now.

The immobiliser bypass is easy enough to do so I’d try it.
A quick google will bring up the details.

Just noticed that I have been using my spare set of keys with the original alarm fob / transponder etc attached. Need to find my usual set just in case this is somehow causing the problem!

I’m not familiar with the starter circuit on these but you would need to try to work backwards from the solenoid terminal seeing where your losing the supply.
A wiring diagram would help but you do need some electrical knowledge to use it.
