...leaving a roundabout last night, its raining, being very careful as i always am, when the back end goes away from me....couldnt believe it!

I would estimate my speed in the roundabout to be around 20 / 25 but as i left it was when it spun. i am guessing as i accelerated.

managed to mount a kerb and just about came to a full stop all intact when.....the back end hits a lamp post! Wing is well knackered, just hoping everything else will be okay?

Any ideas?

Its off to the garage tonight.

Cheers

Thanks for the comments guys.

Re the tyres:
I have the orginal Potenzas on there (i think..excuse my ignorance) but after reading your posts will change to the Yokos soon as budget allows.

135sport...you said your car was off the road for 4 months! Was this just to have the rear clamshell repaired? Surely not! Please say something else happened! What are typical repair times for these things?

Should hopefully hear from the repair shop today what the damage is.

I still cant believe it happened as when its wet and I hit corners I am always thinking, take it easy etc.
I saw a gritter truck about an hour or so on the same road so maybe it was a bit icey too.

I should go back and have a look i guess at the road surface. Its a strange roundabout...almost like its 'sunken' into the road so it dips then pops back up etc. I guess that never helped.

Did you get any injuries in your crash?

Guys

I cant believe it. Got the damage report today for my car.

Turns out the chassis is bent and needs replaced along with other bits n pieces. Its a borderline write off apparently. Will have to see what the insurance company says.

If its not a write off, then its 3 months till they can get a new chassis!

I cant believe...cannot believe it.

Guys

I got the news back from the insurer this week. My Elise Mk2 has been written off! I can't believe it. The chassis needed replaced! Amazing how much damage was done at such a low impact ( around 25mph ).

My first ever crash in a car ever and I write off a Lotus!

7.5 months old too!

For what its worth my insurer is Direct Line and they have been pretty speedy with sorting it out etc.

My girlfriend part owned the car and she is not wanting another :-( so I will have to wait until I can afford one myself before I can get another.

Believe it or not, with 4 yrs no claims, no accidents, and living in Glasgow, I was paying £1400 pa! The amazing thing was, it was the lowest by a long shot compared to others. I am 29, girlfriend is 24. That was through Direct Line.

Nightmare said: Why on earth is yours so high? Is Glasgow dreadful for insurance or are you a doctor or pilot?!

very sorry to hear about car web-dude...am astonished (and now quite worried) that you can write off an S2 at 25mph. It might be worth checking that roundabout v carefully.

I'm a web designer, but my girlfriend is a doctor...is that bad?

I returned to the roundabout and noticed it had a weird cambre ( spelling?) on it...it was like a mini roundabout that was sunken into the road, coming to a 'peak' on the exit...if that makes sense...and it was on the exit when the back end went. Perhaps this, with the rain, and the cold weather didn't help things at all.

I agree that its usually quite easy to catch the elise when it skids, though i had never experienced quite as bad a spin as what happend that night and was unable to catch it at all

Still, think I will get another when the finances allow
