Hi,

I`ve been reading various posts and most seem to agree that the S6 is lacking oil over the top-end during the first seconds of start-up (seem as high as ~10 seconds).

Does a pre-oiler exist for the S6? I remember reading a post where someone had such a system on a Sagaris but I cannot find it now.

Would this is a complex thing to do or make? I`m an engineer so if its a pump, tubing, electrical cabling (even with cut out timer) and a bit of drilling I think I can manage..

Thanks for any advice,

KJ

Raceproved have developed one for the SP6 and Clever Trevor should have the first run of units for sale next month. Around £1700 I think...

Plasticman has one fitted ..

as do we on our Race T350 smile

The final cosmetic alterations of the injection moulding tool have now been completed and production is due to start in the next month according to Raceproved. Advanced orders will obviously be fulfilled first then on for general release smile

Thanks for the amazing fast response!

Does anyone know of the details for this kit (what it includes)? Is it complex to install and will it really improve life? (or is the £2k better saved for a rebuild down the line)

One final question as I`m not so 'up' on engine internals (at the moment!) - I assume the oil injector sprays the oil over the top-end. Why is located at one end of the engine and not the middle?

Thanks, KJ.

looks very nice, but surely you dont need to tool up for a new cam cover?
wont a capilary tube fit in the existing cam cover?
or can you fit some sprays ontop of the cam cover?

seems like boling the ocean to solve a simple problem.

any one got a spare cam cover to do some experimentation with?

been looking at doing myself, ford had a oil spray bar on the pinto engine over the cam, so a pre oil kit, a couple of hours work and bob's your uncle for a lot less dosh.

Hi L1OFF,

When your fitting this kit can you possibly do a 'how-to' guide for us newbie's to the S6? i`ve seen the various pre-oilers on the web and was wonder is it as simple as a bolt on (I`m a engineer with electronic/software/mechanical experience - just not experience of engines yet smile )

Thanks

Simple enough really, my backgroung is similar to yours but I had an older brother who was a mechanic (sadly no longer with us) so I grew up with car engines.
Good idea with the "how to" must dust of the digital camera.

Sounds like a great idea wink Anything that extends the life of my (soon to be) S6 engine will be great!

Alan, is this the accumulator/gas charge type you are going for? or reservoir & pump

I like the sound of this and I like the look of the new Red 'Speed Six' cover.

Would the cover and the pre-oiler fit the S6 Cerbera and if so where can I get the bits? (I think I would ask Dulford to fit it)

Thanks CwC

yes, pressurized charge. Not quite the same as the OP but can't do any harm and is cheaper.

Very interesting project Alan.
I hope you will keep us updated with progress, especially supported with photos.
It's this kind of innovation which will, in the long run prove invaluable to all SP6 owners if it improves longevity.
At £1700 a pop from a specialist, I'm sure this kind of DIY project would be well within the grasp of many owners with the right documentation.....& numpty guide nuts

Good luck with the installation & please keep us informed as to your progress clap

That's what I was thinking and presumably there's the cost to have it fitted on top of that. Also, does £1,700 include VAT. By the time you add all this up, you're paying a sizeable chunk of the cost of a rebuild to have some oil squirted over the top end prior to start up. The benefits of the pre-oiler are pretty obvious, but at that price I would want a product that has been proven to increase the longevity of the engine. I just can't get my head round the cost - that's either a lot of profit or a lot of manufacturing cost and I can't see how the parts alone could be that expensive to manufacturer.

How many speed six owners can say there engine broke through lack of oil to the top end? Through faulty components yes but lack of oil?

I think the lack of oil hype has been exaggerated by the " oil mod" that Craft invented and other firms jumping on the band wagon.

Mine had a lack of oil but it was at the big end? Probably self inflicted by overheating.

Unless its a faulty component adding pre oilers on wont stop a failure if the engine does not have the respectful procedures adhered to.

Just a thought.
