Yep, that’s what I thought. Proper earthing when re-installing the radio surpressor apparently solved the dash disco.
There was another smaller capacitor fitted to the current connector of the regulator (under the black alternator cover) in my old device. Did not swop this one.
Any ideas what that is/was for?
Cheers

Hi mates, I just swopped my Alternator for a new one (off the shelf part for Rover). Working fine, but my dash goes mad showing wrong rev figures and the gear shift lights are playing Disco ??).
Anybody got experiences what may fix it?
Do I need to also swop the regulator and/or add the little black resistor at the Earth connector from the old Magneti Marelli Alternator ?
Hi All,

Alternator on my Sag has packed up, bought a new one from Motoclan (website said it was for Sag) but clearly it isn't (shown on the left below). The original is a Denso part number but I understand is obsolete.

Where are people getting replacement alternators from, any idea on manufacturer or part number?

Thanks a lot for any help
Antony

Can't help with sourcing a suitable alternator.

If anyone is swapping the alternator of the belt then be aware there is an oil fitting on the block right below the alternator. Very close. so be careful when loosening the alternator to swap the belt or for removal. The weight of the alternator is sufficient to break the fitting.

Is it definitely "wrong"?
Are the mounting points, rotation direction and wire connections correct / the same?
You'll need to swap the TVR-specific pulley over onto any new alternator, so dont assume it's wrong because of that.
Should be 100amp I think.
Racetech sell replacements too (again, not necessarily the OE TVR ones which i think were denso/Magneti Marelli):
