Hi,
Does anyone have any experience with Speed 6 Engine Tech in Henley on Thames?
My motors there now for a rebuild. Full rebuild will be 5500. Was advised the engine will be of the highest quality as one of the Engineers built the engine for the La Mans car. Sounds like great credentials.
Heard the odd thing about TVR Powers upgrade to Red rose, and it don't sound all rosey. Too much stress on the engine and only around 10bhp increase. Any have any input on this?

Thanks for the mails. I'll keep you updated with how things go. My experience with TVR's is not a happy one so the thought of loading the extra BHP onto standard engine is a dubious one. My knowledge of engines would point to the fact that new pistons, crank and rods would realistically be needed to cope with the power increase. This is the reason the factory red Rose is normally a few thou more. Anyone had the work done thats on he site?

Well here goes. As mentioned before, I'm very unlucky with the TVR's. So this in mind, what could be the worse case scenario that I could here. Yep you got it. The engine is lost, absolutely shagged. Don't know if any of it can be used.

It appears that it has previously been abused and someone has tried to hide this fact. Slik 50 was found in the engine, and this had congealed to block the oilways. It had broken bearings, the crank was able to float around in the housing, and so on and so on!!

I'm a little miffed now, as when you buy from a TVR enthusiast you tend to have faith in their word. Further investigation is underway on the motor, and I'm not laying the blame at anyones feet until I find out more.

I have found the guys at Speed Six Engine Tech very helpful so far, and will keep you updated with what the outcome will be. Just don't want the £15000 new engine to be a solution.

Why do I put myself through this every time?? It must be that each time I pick it up from the garage you get that all too familiar feeling.

Very short notice and being sat on the A19 with a very expensive bit of art.
First thought was TVR Power, but it could'nt be worked upon until September. With just 3 days under my belt, I could'nt wait that long. Also heard mixed reviews on the Red Rose rebuild. Actually spoke to the guy that sold the car to me and he pointed me in SSET direction. Gave em a ring, very polite, sounded like they knew what they were doing, and had a shorter turn around. Price was a little more, but it was an all in price. So sent the AA man down there. Very nice man!!
I've had contact with Jason and he dose'nt know where the 15k price came from, and assures me it will be no where near that. Thanks god!!
Just waiting to see what the options are. I'm more inclined to spend the extra and have an S thats been rebuilt slipped in. Will at least feel like I've got something for my dosh.
My tip is be very careful buying private. Thought I would of learnt the first time.

Spoken to the guys at DV and they were very helpful. They have a very low mileage 4 ltr with fire damage. Its an option. I also bought a new engine for my GTV as the following day the TVR blew up, I took the reliable GTV into work and hey would you beleive it, the bloody thing blew its gasket. And to add to it, the work will cost 2k, hense buy another engine, fingers crossed.
I should have a good idea what the options are by tomorrow. I'll keep you updated.

Update. I'm having an S engine fitted to an already heavily modified car. Just makes sense. Not sure on the final figure yet, but it'll be worth it.
Its having existing parts replaced with much higher quality parts, crank balaced and polished, and anything else that can be done to increase power and reliability. Should be turned around by the end of next week.
Cant bloody wait!!!!

Well its a little like Xmas time where you get your dream present, you play around with it for a couple of days, fall in love with it,:nits: then your mum takes it off you cos its got a little fault, not that I had a little fault!!! You will do anything to get it back as soon as possible.
Its maybe cost another 1 or 2 grand to get it back earlier than could of been done, but I'm gonna get a power ranger with laser eyes, missile launcher, and retractable arms. Its gonna be worth it.
