Back on track, what sort out recording time would one get from a 16GB/32GB MicroSD card, when set to 720p? Need to decide which one to buy!
Thanks, it does automatically overwrite but I haven't quite worked out how much it uses yet. Currently got a 4gb card which cost £8. Thanks WHSmith
but I was determined to play with it straight away, so needs must...
Ideally want a good couple of days storage when it's on motion detect mode so might have to be 32gb.

Hi,
Has anyone found one with a remote mounted screen ?
I do lots of short trips and I'm unhappy leaving the current offering in view as I think they might get stolen (I'm more concerned about having a window broken)
Whereas a couple of 2cm cameras won't (IMO)
BUT I want a screen as playing with a non screen camera has taught me you don't always get what you expect.
Thanks

I have one of these, free to a good home:

The power lead got damaged when VW were servicing the car, but it could be repaired by someone in the know, or perhaps you could get a new one from the manufacturer. I bit the bullet and got a Roadhawk RH2.
I can post, but priority will be given to anyone who can collect from Frensham, near Farnham.

I bought a V1000GS dash cam from eBay (shipped from China) about 6 weeks ago but unfortunately only got around to testing it last week.
The quality is outstanding as it is full 1080p. Unfortunately mine has a fault and it seems to lose power after about 5 minutes of recording which corrupts the file. I've emailed the seller but I think it'll be too much of a pain to try and ship it back to China for a replacement which will probably cost at least £35. I paid £75 delivered for it.
I'm so impressed with the quality though that I think I'm going to order another but this time I'll make sure to test it on arrival!

Tom, if you pm your details I can drop round pretty much any time this week. How about if I can get it working I'll bung a few quid in the charity of your choice?
That's a kind gesture, but please don't feel you have to.I emailed you my address via PH. Did you receive it?

Interesting, I received one of the eBay ones for Christmas. (

It's a faff initially because all of the instructions are in Chinese, as are the menus on the camera. However, by lots of trial and error I've managed to change it to English.
First impressions are very good. I had some teething troubles with the settings, but now seem to have got it to a state whereby it automatically records all the time, overwriting the oldest footage.
The quality is alright- It's difficult to pick out numberplates from moving images but if the car's close enough you can see them clearly. Low light performance not great however I may have to fiddle with the settings a bit. The motion detection function works really well though.
I've currently got it plumbed into the car and continuously recording, hopefully the current drain should be minimal... Fingers crossed. I think it's discreet enough not to be visible unless you really look, it would be a bummer if the car were broken into because of it though!
Might have a look at that Class 10 card. Currently got a Class 4 HP 4GB one, but it doesn't store a huge amount of footage. Enough to work as an "incident recorder" when out driving but would be nice to have a couple of days rolling recording in case of car being hit whilst parked, etc.
Haven't really tried the rear camera yet, there's nowhere suitable for me to mount it!
I've got one of these too in my daily runner except its a newer version with an adjustable rear camera, cheapest I've found - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321039486672?ssPageName=... - its all completely fitted to the car it can hardly be seen from the outside looking in. The power supply gave up so I installed a 12v socket, USB adaptor and cable now it works great. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-0-LCD-Dual-Lens-Car-Ve...

Check out some of the kit from this company - http://www.koonlung.net/product.asp - I've got two of the HD-93 camera kits for my Cayman and bike they are superb quality...not all things from China are junk.
