Does anyone know how to input via points without having to specify a street?
You can do it through the View Map option. Just scroll around the map until you find where you want to go to, hit the GO button, and you will be asked if you want to add it as a via point. Easy.

Very encouraging - thanks for the posts.

The 760 does sound like a super buy. However, for those willing to wait (and pay more), the 860 is round the corner and looks like costing somewhere around £350-400. It offers speech recognition though (fully so, it appears), hence the relatively higher cost. Reviews have been very good though, and the spec (via the Garmin site) looks very impressive.

I don't know either, and the only place I've see it advertised is Expansys.
Any idea how long the wait will be, after 10 mins of google I am no closer to finding out.
In stock at Amazon so about delivery 2-3 days from ordering

cheers, will now go and brush up on my advanced searching techniques i.e. eh try Amazon first ...

ETA:
that is the 760, I was asking when the 860 would be available!

2something, I'm told the UK launch is late May/Early June.

It is, however, available now (apparently )via some UK firm for a whopping £700!

In Germany, you can buy it for a superb 500 Euros (or thereabouts). Expansys are also taking pre-orders now, at sensible prices (nearer the German price).

Hope this is helpful and apologies to the OP re the hijack of the 760 thread.

Anyone know if you can plan a route on Google Maps (much easier) and convert it into a file you can load onto a Garmin, as you can for a TomTom Itinerary...?

Yes you can, though I personally find it easier to plan a route on MS Autoroute first. There's a utility called ITNConv that will convert between a variety of Satnav formats.

Search on here or Google it and you should find it.

Small thread hijack - got my 760 which looks good, but is the 4 page Quick Start Guide all you really get, or am I missing a full manual from the packaging?

Thanks in advance

I am guessing it's on the CD that came with it, probably as a pdf file.

Not sure, but so much stuff nowadays comes with no manual and everything on CD I was just guessing there might be one. Sorry about that.

I didn't get a CD with mine, and I wasn't expecting one. There is a Help file in the Tools menu that will give you the basics. If you are unsure about anything else, ask on here. Usually doesn't take long for someone to come along with an answer.

Just reading about this 760. Sounds good!
Does the Traffic Message service require a seperate aerial, or is it built into the cigarette lighter charger cable?

Separate cable but connected near the unit. It comes with little suckers so that you can attach it to the windscreen but as it works perfectly well in "dangle mode" I've taped it to the power cable for convenience.

Cracking piece of kit, btw.

Anyone know how many map-via points you can add when creating a route?

Do you get a cable to connect the 760 to a PC?

Yes. A USB lead which also offers the ability to recharge the unit.

Just bought a 760. Absolutely fabulous and miles better than my mates TomTom 520.
Wife loves it too as it is easy to use and slim. £229 currently in Halfords reduced from £349. May be slightly cheaper on the net but once I saw it in action I had to take one home!

What aspects do you prefer to the Tomtom?
