Tried this out a few times recently, seems quite good so far and would have been useful for avoiding an accident today had I been taking it more seriously. Although the maps sound like a community effort rather than pulled from OpenStreetMap or similar?

Joined the PH group (I think), 29 members so far?

What's the name of the PH group? I've searched for it under Pistonheads and PH but can't find it.

There was always talk of them buying some decent map data in to use as a guide for people to make better but it never came about while I was involved - all the roads I added were done from scratch using the app and then edited afterwards using a plugin that allowed you to overlay maps from Google in a browser.

It's Pistonheads. Thing is I did a search last night and couldn't find it. I only got to it since I already joined the group. Hmmmmmm...

Thanks, I've tried searching for:
Pistonheads
pistonheads
Piston Heads
PH
Piston
piston
Heads
heads

There also doesn't seem to be a way to invite or search for people. Anyone else a member of the PH group that can shed light? Mark, can you go to the group and find out who the group owner is?

loving this app.............. fantastic!!!!!

additional benefit is that it works on appradio (double din iphone extension)

although the group search function is arse and i can only join local groups (via phone or desk top dashboard)

i was using navfree but found that dull and boring!!

the more people join it, the better it will get....

i flagged up* a police camera van and 2 x average speed cameras this morning and got rid of some other bits so was having fun smile

Didn't realise it worked on App Radio, that is quite impressive. Looked at it last year but didn't think many Apps supported.

If maybe you were to look in an underground place that specialised in GPS, you might be able to wink

Buy Android phone for £100.

Download WAZE app for FREE

Attempt to join PH group... smile

... and fail grumpy

It's not bad at giving directions though, and there's Google Navigate.

Seeing how the 'completely re-imagined' Apple maps has turned out to be not very good, have many people resorted to Waze?

Reading Tim Cook's apology, I was surprised to see that he recommended using a different app while Apple try to fix theirs!

So, Waze. Any good? A genuine replacement for Google Maps?

I've not used it for walking directions, I think it's pre-set to driving rather than walking to be honest but I havent looked to be sure

Just thought i would take a look at this and programmed in my home and work addresses which are 12km apart.

When i asked it to plan the route it wants to take me on a route that is 27km...

Not a great start smile

Problem is since maps are user contributed I suspect there can be huge variation in quality, used it a few times around Aberdeenshire and Northumberland without issue though.

Can't understand why they don't import data from OpenStreetMap, since the ability to report traffic, accidents plod etc. could be a major selling point for the app, which needs lots of users and in turn a reliable map.

Thread revival. (did a search and this came along, to save starting a new thread)
I'm using WAZE too now, after NavFree sent me on a few wild goose chases recently.

so far it has been faultless, very neat bit of software actually.
