Mine tells me to turn right when in fact the road just bears right. It makes me look for a right turn. This was happening in France and Spain alot. It was also not telling me to take slip roads off motorway junctions.

Something that needs looking at garmin, if you're reading this.

You just need to learn how to interprate it. At the end of the day it's just a tool, not a navigation panacea.

Yes my 360 does that if there is a turning on a bend. Even if you are keeping to the same road it gives directions. It can be disconcerting, but the picture clarifys things.

Anyone know how many map-via points you can add when creating a route?

Do you get a cable to connect the 760 to a PC?
Map points: contact Garmin tech support. Very helpful, and very quick replies

PC cable: yes

I've had 2 same afternoon replies. I guess it depends who gets assigned the mail?

Quite possibly I've been extremely unlucky on the couple of times I've had queries.

Then to add insult to injury, the reply they generally give is IT fob off style like 'have you tried rebooting the system'.

Ok, so how do you tell the difference when it says "take next right turn" at a junction where there is a right turn or "take next right turn" when there isn't one as it's a bend right but you're looking for a "RIGHT TURN".

Hardly the same is it!!!???!!! It should say "Bear right' or "stay right". it's annoying when you're travelling at speed, night or when there is other traffic and you don't want to be staring at the mapping. I'm looking for a right turn.

My point is, that this TOOL has slight problems that can be easily fixed by Garmin by using different instructions. It's a tool that I expect the voice instructions to be correct as I've got my eyes on the road and not the mapping!

Wouldn't know about that, I always have the voice turned off.

I've not had a problem with slip road directions, here or abroad, the instructions I've received have been correct and well timed.

The issue of turn right when bear right might be more suitable is only when there is a bend on a junction, it possibly might be justifed as it's confirming the road. Only a glance at the display is needed to clarify this.

Om my 760 i have a colour screen. Every so often i glance at it and it shows the junction i'm approaching.

Yes a glance at the display can sort out any confusion, however on a 760 I had an instruction turn right in x hundred yards, and followed what was obviously the main road round a fairly gentle right bend only to fail to find the right turn.

What it should have said was, bear slightly left onto xxxxx road and then in x hundred yards turn right.

Also I find the timing not wonderful but then I'm comparing it with a built-in system which not only uses GPS for location but refines it with info from ABS sensors and gyroscope/compass.

I want "itinery planning" as I want to go exactly where I want to go, rahter than the unit taking me on "its" preferred route. Am I right in thinking that the 710 and 760 do this. Does anymone know the main differences between the two units other than the 710 being UK only. cheers

Yes they can do itnerary planning and optimisation of calling points. The 710 has regional maps (UK) where the 760 comes with Europe. The only other difference is that the 760 has Text to Speech (ie wil tell you to turn left on King Street as opposed to turn left in 100 yards).

Comparison of the two units on Garmin's own website can be found here

I know that some of them do, I just don't know which ones as I have never used TomTOm.

You can create a route and then add waypoints as necessary to follow the road you want calling at the waypoints in the order tht you select.

Alternatively you can enter a set of random waypoints, or delivery addresses for example, and the Nuvi 760 has an option that will optimise those waypoints in to the shortest route between them all.

I have had mine for about 6 months and very impressed. In France i had the problem mentioned above (confusion on which exit on roundabouts and sliproads - especially on motorways and it doesn't have the latest French motorways on its database) but excellent on towns. . I need to work out how to use Autoroute or similar and does any one know how to make it display "Favourites" alphabetically??
