I am considering buying a TomTom One IQ routes with European mapping from the current range. I decided on TomTom basically to avoid the dilemma of researching different brands and because it falls into my budget!
However the decision to get one essentially hinges on the ability to plan my own itinerary. I want to be able to add waypoints and use the sat nav as a guide to take me on the roads I want to use, rather than just follow its instructions blindly.

I've read that early models have a feature that lets you do this, but on the latest models it is omitted from the menu structure? Does anyone have the above (or similar) model and can advise?

Thanks

Thanks for the help. I've heard of that TYRE software and intended to use that to plan my own routes. I guess the only way to find out for sure is a trip to Halfords to have a play with the TT one IQ routes and the TT XL IQ.

Cheers

One different point to consider. You obviously believe the One will have a large enough screen for you. As well as the 3d route map, consider the size of the numerically data underneath, and also consider the size of the map if you are trying to review a proposed route. Personally, I find the One screen inconveniently small.

Let us know what you find about the itinerary feature in the One IQ - if it has it, it is generally called Itinerary Planning and is on menu Page 3.
It's funny you should mention that, I had a look at a TomTom one in the window of Argos today and was quite dissapointed at how big it wasn't. I think the XL is the one I will go for.

Thanks again

I have the one IQ routes and it has itinery planning. It is on the second of the two menu screens.
Thanks! You might have saved me a few quid. How do you get on with the screen size?

I have just taken a Tomtom start back to the shop as it does not have a preferences menu at all!

I thought i was going blind when i couldn't find it. Apparently you need a big wide screen Tomtom to put in your pocket now if you want one that will give you a walking or cycling route rolleyes
Cheers for the extra info. I was going to avoid the 'start' because it looked like it was a pretty stripped down basic version. I will probably get a One IQ XL but Amazon seem to have put their prices up shoot

Oh man! frown Now I've started reading the reviews on Amazon a lot of them are quite patchy!

Does your Garmin have a route planning feature like the TomTom?
