Well, I live in a rural location and two of the roads out of my hamlet are single track with passing places. If I can manage, then I don't suppose your roads are any smaller/narrower than that.
But mine might be busier...
Or Not. Who knows?

Anyway, I suppose now that you've decided you don't want an S90/V90, you're in the wrong thread.

Oh don't be a spoilsport. I'm allowed in here despite my personal opinion that the car is too big for my own use.

I still like the car but I'm simply waiting for the smaller brother to appear.

I have an S90 R Design on order and hope to collect in early March.

I had one on a weekend test before deciding to order.

It was an R design Pro on 20 inch option wheels.

Ride was fine on the bigger wheels although I am sticking with the standard 18 and hope to notice a slight improvement still!

As for the size, it is certainly quite long and feels very wide when being driven but in actual fact when I checked the dimensions, it is exactly the same width as my Mercedes C class estate but feels far more capacious. I am sure that once I get used to the car, the width will become quite normal. I have to navigate country lanes and the streets of York which are not exactly wide!

I have ordered the options of front parking sensors and the rear facing camera . Although the 360 degree camera is nice, it isn't vital. Rear parking is more of a concern with the length.

My car is also coming with Park Assist which I didn't order due to a cock up by the dealers, so no complaints from me.

As I understand it, the Apple/ Android play is a retro fit option?

What is the precise benefit of it? So you can use Google or Waze navigation in preference to the factory nav......is that about it?

Looking forward to a swop back to Volvo after 6 years of Merc ownership.....hope I don't regret it.

Cheers?

I was advised by Johnsons Volvo that you can retrofit it for Iphone but Android has to be done at factory. This was when I was querying a stock model last week and before I said what phone I'd got.

I use carplay myself (Iphone) and have specc'd it on the xc60 I'm ordering. Not sure how necessary it is with the Volvo given there's sat nav and spotify options etc - but based on previous use, the ability to read out and reply via siri to text is very helpful. I use Spotify, Overcast and Apple music on it - again, could possibly do that anyway via bluetooth. You can't use anything other than Apple Maps with Iphones which is very limiting but I believe you can with Android

You can use google maps for navigation on an iphone
I dont understand the car play thing
If you have an iphone rather than attaching it to the heater vents does it somehow connect to the car display?

I mean with carplay - you can only use Apple Maps when it is connected to carplay regardless of having google maps (or anything else) on the phone. Only certain apps will work on carplay

And I DESPISE Apple Maps

Carplay is the car software your iphone works with

CarPlay is quite limited in what it can do and I don’t think it’s worth paying for unless you had a car without nav.
In my old BMW you could access Siri through the command button on the steering wheel without CarPlay.

I've not been overly impressed with it to be honest either. I specc'd it on my current car and it was only a £100 option. However, I ended up taking a stock one that didn't have it and bought it post purchase at a cost of £250. Its done a job (I didn't have nav) but as I say I hate apple maps. And I could hardly ever get my text replies dicated properly

Tempted to drop it (not keen how it looks on the portrait screen) and go with on call and just use a data sim for some of the apps I'd use anyway. If I then feel like I'm missing it I can add it on later

If anyone wants an exceptional deal on a Volvo V90 and doesn't mind a Petrol T4 then you should contact neil@clivebrook.co.uk

We ran a few numbers this morning for the D4 and I asked Neil to try for the T4 and for whatever reason these prices are substantially lower.

The deal I am going for is:

Savile Grey V90 T4 Inscription - 8k miles pa. 9*23 - £249.76 with initial deposit £2,247.84 + Maintenance is £20.1 per month. All inc VAT

5k miles pa is £224.00 with initial £2,024.91

5k pa - T4 R Design is £187.51 with Initial of £1687.59 £6000 total

I am not sure how long this deal will last for.

That T4 R Design is very cheap - £6k all in? Is that S90 or V90?

To comment on the CarPlay front - I ordered it on my S90 and wouldn't have bothered for the following reasons;
- Apple Maps isn't that great
- The built in Nav is actually pretty decent and also works in the active dial display as opposed to Apple Maps which is limited to the 1/2 screen CarPlay app window. Includes live traffic, speed camera warning and road speed indicator.
- The car's built in Spotify app is *much* better than the CarPlay app version - this surprised me.
- But *most annoying* part is that when my iPhone is connected to the car via the USB port to charge / enable CarPlay it *disables* internet over bluetooth. This means all the 'smart' features of the rest of the car's entertainment system stop working. You can manually reconnect via wifi hotspot instead but it 'forgets' each time you connect vs bluetooth which automatically connects. Cannot stress how annoying this is - I've basically stopped using CarPlay now altogether as it doesn't add anything over the built in apps.

As noted earlier, be careful if you get it added as a dealer option rather than a factory install, the former only provides 1 not 2 x USB ports and is CarPlay only and not Android Auto.

Can I ask how the live traffic works, do you know? Is it via data or radio traffic info? Also, a big criticism of my VW is the ETA provided by the Nav is basically garbage, is the Volvo one realistic compared to say, Google maps?

That’s a great point to be honest and one id forgotten about. It cuts out other Bluetooth connections as well so when I have my own phone and work phone connected I lose the work connectivity.

Might scrap that option and see how it goes without it myself.

Any more opinions on the T4 - under-powered or ok?

I would say for the £500 ish extra the D4 would be a better bet. ‘Faster’, more economical and with more torque - I love petrols but the D4 would be the choice here.

Hmm. I do short journeys so was dead-set against the diesel. Equal power outputs at 190bhp, but you've a fair point on the torque - 100Nm more in the diesel I think?

Where can you get the D4 for only £500 more than the T4 Inscription please?
