Worth deciding for yourself if there is anything to cover. In my research any total loss is negotiated between insurer and title holder (lease company) and the lease holder is not troubled. If you have a large up front cost it may be worth insuring this in case you write it off on day 1.

Personally, I am satisfied that with no or minimal up front payment there is no scenario where I will be left out of pocket by a written off or stolen car. You may decide otherwise.

From reading around this previously if you do decide you want to buy it then about £60 is the going rate for 2 years of cover. It has been discussed many times on many threads and you need to haggle between the main providers to get this as they all price match.

Try searching for threads on it. There are several examples discussed.

I went for gap just for peace of mind, think it was £75-ish.
You need to be a lawyer to understand all of the Santander contract details but I definitely read it to say if there was a total loss I would be liable for ‘a sum equal to the residual value of the vehicle’ (clause 9.4.4 in the contract).

So if my insurer thinks the residual value is less than Santander then that’s my problem unless I have gap.

I think... I’m still not entirely sure!

Apologies for dragging this subject on - firstly, can I ask where you got the £75 cover from?

More importantly, can someone let me know if I need it? I'm paying £1,250 up front. Is it only worth getting the GAP? Is that what I'm covering here? Will have the car for 24 months. Would I not get any of that initial back if I had a write-off after say 17 months?

I am no expert but to my knowledge Gap cover comes in two sections.

The first covers you in the event of a total loss during your custody of the car where the lease company values it at x but your insurer values it at less than x. This Gap would be paid by the Gap insurers.
The second section which you can add to the first if you wish for an extra premium would cover you for your up front payment, in your case £1250.
I personally think that the valuation Gap on a lease of up to a couple of years is unlikely so it is only worth buying if you want to cover any up front amount you have paid. Lets say the premium including cover for your up front payment is £100. Would you buy a raffle ticket for £100 when the top prize is £1250 and statistically you are very unlikely to win it.

Only my opinion.

Thanks for your detailed reply, makes a lot more sense to me now. I tend to agree with your analogy too - not sure it is worth covering my initial if the cost of that was more than a few % of that figure.

Hard to know how much the estimate would be out if there was a total loss too.

New April update looks very thorough .Connected Safety is now live and another update for the gearbox.

Good to see.
Can that be received OTA or does it have to be done at the dealer?

Booked my v90 in for 1st service. Showing £300 on website but when I rang and asked how much, they quoted £240 over the phone. Happy with that. Volvo Belfast.

It'll be dealership but you don't have to wait until service time, just phone and get it booked in.

Is there a cost and how long does it take please?

Cheers

Hi all,

Map update question. I tried installing all Europe maps to get rid of the “updates available” notice that was coming up every day despite not having any updates available on the download centre.

This was a 46gb download and after approx 4 hours of driving it was only at 17% installed. I’m driving to France in the next couple of weeks so would really like to have maps back, so thought I’ll atop it and just reinstall UK and France. It’s now just saying “installation paused” and is not doing anything.

Does anyone know if there’s a way to reset the install so I can just install the UK and France maps, or is it a dealer trip to get it reset?

Thanks!

Hi,
I can't answer your question about the reset but this may be an issue with the speed of your USB drive.
My entire update took about an hour (USB 3.0 stick with 150 MB/s read speed)

Thanks, was that to install the full EU map?

Should be free. All they're doing is plugging it in.

Yes, all 48GB or so (UK and France seemed to be the only ones installed prior).

I just had email confirmation from Lex Autolease. Kwikfit are an authorised service agent and you can take your car to them for the service, rather than Volvo and still be within the terms of contract.

How do their prices compare?
I have to go to Volvo with my Santander contract, but I should be able to get them to price match .

You need to type your reg into the website to get a bespoke quote, but it should be around the £170 mark for a full service.

Thanks. Came out as £184 in fact.
The trick will be to get Volvo to agree that Kwikfit use 'genuine Volvo parts' in their service (although I'm sure Volvo don't do filters, oil or spark plugs)!

Hi All

I just popping in to say hello. I’ve just signed up to an in stock V90 D4 Momentum. Model year 19, but the spec is fine for me. It’s a 9+ 23 lease for £318 based on 20k miles a year. Will be a big change from my CLS 63 Shooting Brake, but to be honest I spend the vast majority of my time on the motorway and the various traffic snarls that entails. I’m releasing the capital on the CLS and banking the cash for a while. Strangely looking forward to be soothed and piloted at 5 am on a rainy morning biggrin

I’m paying to have CarPlay activated as I’m dedicated user of Waze, so it will be nice to have it fully integrated.

Quick question, I have an unlimited data plan on my iPhone. Does the sensus system work better/quicker with an integrated SIM?

PS, anyone after a CLS 63 Shooting Brake with 12 months AMG warranty keep an eye out in the classifieds soon wink

Has anyone ordered an R-Design with the optional 22” alloys?

If so, have you had to pay the full upgrade cost over the term?

Putting me off the Santander 18/24 month deals but not sure I can live with the standard wheels.

Cheers
