Quick question, I have an unlimited data plan on my iPhone. Does the sensus system work better/quicker with an integrated SIM?
Hello and welcome. You'll love the car, I have had an S90 for 3 weeks now.

I bought a SIM and used it in the Car with Sensus. To be honest, I didn't notice it work any quicker than when tethered. Having said that, I had to sometimes re-connect my phone before the car woke up and tethered to it, which was a faff.

I would just use the data connection on your phone along with apple carplay and go from there (i.e. spotify, for example, works much better with less lag via the phone, from my experience).

It's a pretty good standard system, I must admit.

You need to type your reg into the website to get a bespoke quote, but it should be around the £170 mark for a full service.
Thanks. Came out as £184 in fact.
The trick will be to get Volvo to agree that Kwikfit use 'genuine Volvo parts' in their service (although I'm sure Volvo don't do filters, oil or spark plugs)!
I just picked mine back up from Volvo after the service. Total cost came in at £238 and I felt that was worth it (compared to kwik fit prices) due to all the April updates on Sensus that were released. Will check them all out later to see how they go, particularly pilot assist update.

Hi All

I just popping in to say hello. I’ve just signed up to an in stock V90 D4 Momentum. Model year 19, but the spec is fine for me. It’s a 9+ 23 lease for £318 based on 20k miles a year. Will be a big change from my CLS 63 Shooting Brake, but to be honest I spend the vast majority of my time on the motorway and the various traffic snarls that entails. I’m releasing the capital on the CLS and banking the cash for a while. Strangely looking forward to be soothed and piloted at 5 am on a rainy morning biggrin

I’m paying to have CarPlay activated as I’m dedicated user of Waze, so it will be nice to have it fully integrated.

Quick question, I have an unlimited data plan on my iPhone. Does the sensus system work better/quicker with an integrated SIM?

PS, anyone after a CLS 63 Shooting Brake with 12 months AMG warranty keep an eye out in the classifieds soon wink
Can I ask where you got the above deal 😀

Yes, all 48GB or so (UK and France seemed to be the only ones installed prior).
Thanks for your help on this one, I tried with a different USB stick (both 3.0, albeit the second has a slightly faster read speed) and it’s working much quicker now. Did about 30% on my 15 minute drive to work so fingers crossed it’ll be finished tonight.

How can you tell how far through you are?

I put NW Europe on a stick (1256) and it says installing, but not how far though it is.

2019 V90 r-design here.

Anyone having this issue with pilot assist?

When in use on the motorway, it always seems to keep well over to the left. So my front passenger isn't particularly keen on me using it, especially when in the middle or right lane and i'm passing lorries, as it does feel really close!

Is there a way to adjust the positioning, so that it is more central?

I’m not sure if it’s the same for NW Europe as for all of Europe as I’m installing, but on mine it says “installing” in the main section, and on the far left it has a circle with the completion percentage within it.

Hope that makes sense.

Didn't even know this thread existed,

Just ordered a v90 d4 r-design in metallic grey on a 8,000 mile 1x23 £401.38 all in deal and collect it next week

excess is only 7p a mile so cheaper go pay excess at end if I need it

Seem a good deal?

In the case of my map update, if you tapped the line that said 'installing', it opened up another line that gave the progress.
When I did the voice update, there was no progress indicator - just had to wait.

Seems quite expensive. Does that include maintenance and options to get it up to that price?

I was going to go for a t4 momentum at £359, but sat in one and was a little underwhelmed over the basic spec and seats, let alone the mpg of the petrol

So upgraded to the d5 r-design for £41

My V90 needs its first service in the next few weeks and the best price so far is £250 at Winchester Volvo. Does this sound reasonable for the first service club members?

On another note does anyone know if dealers will price match?

"We will also match any like for like written quote for a Volvo Service using the correct oil and Volvo genuine parts from any garage within 5 miles".

It was through Bells of Northampton. Great to deal with so far.

Fantastic, thanks for that. I’ll try the phone first and see how I get on.

The basic spec isn't exactly sparse! MPG in the petrol is decent if you try, I'm averaging high 30's, got about 50mpg to Glasgow and back the other week.

Not apples and apples but my S90 T4 on the same months and miles is £273 a month.

Few questions if you don’t mind (supposedly picking mine up in just under two weeks - I’ll burn down the dealership if it’s delayed again) as I thought I knew how things worked regarding sims/phones but get a bit confused when reading these replies

I’m getting Car Play on mine so have the extra USB and will be plugging my phone in all the time. Anything I have from Spotify (I don’t use iTunes) that is downloaded on the phone should play without lag - correct?

For Volvo Connect, is it right that you don’t need a SIM card in the car at all times to use features like sending maps to the car and setting the temperature?

I did get one of those 200mb free sims that were mentioned on here recently (though I haven’t registered it yet) so if I’m wrong then I could use that. Would there be conflict/lag if you had a sim in the car and also used Car Play by plugging it in? Or is the sim completely unnecessary?

OR (apologies for the questions!) is it worth having a sim in if you were using the in-built Sat Nav for traffic updates?

Correct.

Correct - there's a built in P-SIM. The RTTI also comes through the built in P-SIM (AFAIK).

The only thing you'd need another sim for is to stream your music (via built in Spotify app for example). But if you're doing that via your phone anyway and your phone's data sim, that isn't necessary.

Others in this thread have noted the same issue and I think this can be adjusted by a dealer.

Correct - there's a built in P-SIM. The RTTI also comes through the built in P-SIM (AFAIK).
According to the Sensus manual (p21):

"With the car connected to the Internet, the driver can access real time traffic information (RTTI) in the navigation system.

RTTI is activated and deactivated as follows:
1. Tap on Settings in the centre display's top view.
2. Press Navigation Traffic.
3. Select Real Time Traffic Information to activate (replaces normal traffic information with RTTI) or deactivate RTTI."

I read this to mean that you only get RTTI if you have an explicit internet connection via WiFi or an added sim card.
You will only get 'normal' traffic (via DAB I believe) without an internet connection.

You have nothing to lose by registering and installing the free sim.
Within the car settings, you make an explicit choice of whether your internet connection comes from the phone or the car modem.
If you are using Car Play, the internet has to come from the phone.
For RTTI with the built-in navigation, the data may come from the phone or car modem.

With Car Play, you will however lose the navigation in the driver display and be stuck with a half-screen navigation display in the centre console.

With the in-built nav, you get full-screen navigation in the centre console as well as the map in the driver display. Far superior IMHO!
