Beyond frustrated trying to play music via Spotify app on iPhone through V90. This has been over 6 weeks now and still can’t get it to work. Car says phone is connected and phone list etc is all there with Phone working hands free etc. iPhone says My Volvo car is connected but press play on Spotify and silence.....I am pulling my hair out.

Are you pressing play on your phone or on the Sensus Spotify app?

Oh and another question, my 3 sim with the 200mb of data, its arrived, ive popped it in the car but doesn't seem to work, so assume it needs registering to get the 200mb of data

However to register it you need to visit three.co.uk/freedata while connected using the sim.

My mobile is locked to EE, and the car obviously doesn't have a browser

So how do I register the sim?
I tried this in an unlocked phone and couldn’t get it to work either - does it need to be in an iPad or tablet for it to work (as it’s just a data sim)?

Did you manage to sort reasonable insurance in the end? I’ve just requested a quote from my existing provider (Quote me Happy) and they came in and just under £400 which I thought was very good considering the vehicle value.
Try AvivaPlus - they are not on comparison sites.
You can get £70 cash back currently going through TopCashback which halved my Volvo Insurance quote of £400.

(Feel free to use my TCB referral link if you don't have an account) smile

Another +1 for Aviva here.

They're charging me an extra £18 until renewal (January) in comparison to my '67 plate 5008. Considering the difference in values between the two cars, engine size (1.2 to 2.0) and general theft risk, I'm pretty gobsmacked.

I activated mine by snapping out the nano sim, activating it using an iphone and then sticking the nano bit back in the bigger sim. Worked fine for me. Make sure you wait for the registration email etc before you take it out of the phone.
Then just shove in the car and tell the car on sensus to start using it. This is in settings and communication.

LV multicar worked for me. You have to phone up to get a quote but I was paying about £210 for the Golf R and switching to the Volvo put it down by another £20.

Do you know anyone with an unlocked phone or cellular iPad? It only needs activating once and doesn't do anything to the phone.

I had my car in for a service and after the software update, its all change - audible warnings, pilot assist will cut out if you don't respond (so you notice the car starts to decelerate) and the green light also can go amber, followed by red.
No mine does that too, but thats the lack of concentration one, gives you amber - red dong - red dong - loud triple beep when switched off.

Im talking about when the car decides it cant cope anymore, due to lack of road markings or rain in the road etc, it just silently switches off auto steering and next thing you know your crossing lines without knowing why irked
Ah, I see. Yes, you would think they would make it the same when that happens, a warning would be most helpful!

As the sim is already in the car, but not working, im wondering if in the setting of the car i can turn on the car wifi, and then connect my phone/laptop and do it that way, as the car wifi will use the sim, but i can use a browser on my laptop?

Will that work?

Nice one - I don't think anyone suggested that when I was faffing around with the SIM in mine smile

I got the 200mb three sim. I put it in the car and it didn't work. I tried to use my phone over the car wifi hotspot to go to the freedata page. Still didn't work. Did an online chat twice with three who kept telling me it was active but would take some time. In the end I put in an old phone and activated. Some have said they just put it in the car and it worked but it completely refused to do so for me until I activated it in a phone.

On another note is Bluetooth tethering or wifi-hotspot tethering better when sharing you mobile net connection with the car? I assume wifi will nuke the phones battery but be faster. My car downloaded the 1256 map and it took ages with the bluetooth connection and then ages to install. In fact it failed the first time and had to start again.

Thanks for trying this out and confirming it worked - will have to try it myself. Tried the Three sim in two iPhone's (one of which is definitely unlocked) and a basic Nokia and had no joy so far!

  • Update ** Just tried it in the car and not sure if it has worked. The car recognises the sim and shows that it is on Three and I have used 0mb of data so far. But I then turned the car into a hotspot, connected my phone to the WiFi hotspot - but that's where I have come unstuck and it wouldn’t load the page ( www.three.co.uk/freedata ) on my phone to register it.
Can anyone suggest what's gone wrong here?

It was the same for me. The car found the sim but there was no data. I tried to use the car hotspot to access the freedata page but it wouldn't work. It would only activate in a phone. I used a old android phone.

Thanks for the reply. Tried it in 3 different phones and can’t activate it so far. Hopefully will find someone with an old Android phone or a tablet that takes sims so I can activate it!

I used my laptop, dont know if that was the difference, but seemed to work just fine on that, rather than a phone

Will try it with my laptop next week when I'm back - I'm determined to get it working!
